  1. The taxi is me!!! It's a question of independance, plus with only 22,000 miles on the clock, this car will be a classic in its own right in a coulle of years.
  2. Thanks. I thought that may be the answer. They do need replacing even though it only does about 120 miles a year... don't ask!!!
  3. I know that there are a lot of posts here about tyre age etc, but am I correct that most of the 'age damage' is done by UV light reaction with the rubber. The reason I ask is that Lady BW's modern does very little mileage and lives with the Spitfire in the garage. Her tyres look fine, no flaking, breaking up etc visible. They are the originals, nearly 20 years old. Only seen daylight (literally) for 22,000 miles.
  4. Valuation sorted. Thanks again Pete along with everyone on the club stand at the NEC. Great show but cost me a fortune. Now just about ready to get new coat (of paint) !!!
  5. Wrong web-site again Doug!!!
  6. Recommisioned mine with Wilkinsons 20/50. Appears ok, but just about to change to Classic Oils Heritage 20/50 which has a much higher zinc content and is well recommended by many on here.
  7. Can someone please tell me if anyone will be on the club stand at the NEC to give valuations using photos & documents. I know that assessing this way is not ideal but better than what I have at the moment.
  8. Karl - What brand of expoxy mastic are you using and where are you getting it from?
  9. A/F. Have a good day at the NEC. This will be the first year I've missed it for years. It was either that or the PC show next week. The PC show won.
  10. I agree with Adrian. After 30 years of my ownership its far from concourse but it goes under its own steam, maintained by... well everyone on this site
  11. Thanks Karl but you would have to drop them off on the way to Lancaster/Ormskirk, I believe!! The next time you drop off/collect yur kids. Not to worry, I think the local club meet has a loan set. I will investigate later in the Spring. Many, many thanks for the offer though. Thus is what this forum us all about and sets it aside (and ahead) of the others,

    Car Lifts

Cartar Glide Lifts get a good recommendation http://cartar.com.au/ But they are far from being cheap
  13. Thanks Karl/Paul. I may order some gutters off RBros and collect them next weekend, also make up the order with polybush to get the 15% discount they are offering. I polybushed the rear spring eyes and shocks as mentioned earlier but not the trackrods. Agree about the diff though. I have no plans to drop it in the near future so will leave well alone. I will also leave the front for the moment until I can borrow a set of spring compressors Does anyone else have any ideas before I put the order through. All contributions are always gratefully received,
  14. Thanks Paul. I wondered how they had been fitted. Should have done this when it was painted 30 years ago but had no idea that it is/appears to be a fairly straight forward job. Did you use a pre-made repair panel or make you own. I was thinking about trying a length of Zintec (I think its called) and trying to make a suitable piece. Fixing it into place with a structural adhesive like Kent Rapid Bond, having cleaned up and treated any rust damage to the frame.
  15. Welcome to the insanity we call the forum. Everything from full rebuilds to red leather (don't ask, just run a search on it). We are friendly and willing to help. Don't worry about the state of the car, just run it, enjoy it and, throw money at it!!!! Rolling restorations are great as long as you keep another Triumph going, I think everyone here will approve and help in any way they can.
  16. When I put the spit back on the road I replaced all the rubbers that I could get to, thinking that the 40 year old rubbers would have perished. Now thinking I should have left them alone. Will pick up some Gates at the show and start again.
  17. Has anyone repaired their windscreen gutter/rain channel? Repair pieces are available from R1mmer Bros at a rather expensive price for a piece of folded strip metal. How do they fit, weld, rivets, structural 2k adhesive and what would be the best way of removing the old gutters without distorting the screen frame. I could, of couse try shaping a piece of metal and using that but I don't have a metal folder and getting an acceptable straight line might be difficult. The old ones were originally bodged with fibreglass but are now showing rust again where they meet the main frame.
  18. Agreed. Owen's leatherwork is beautiful and I thouroughly recommend it. The best work and probably the best price. Do a forum search on Park Lane Classics.
  19. Karl. This is exactly what I thought and going to the PC show it is a good opportunity to pick up the bushes that I will be needing. However a full kit contains bushes that I probably won't need for some time, if ever and also some that I have already fitted, hence the enquiry as to what members consider important.
  20. As mentioned previously here, last year while I was replacing my Ujs, I took the opportunity to polybush the shock absorbers although I still need to find a replacement to the well recomended KYB units which are no longer available. I am looking to 're-bush' other areas of the car and will take the opportunity to buy them at the NEC show next week. The question is which areas of the car, suspension etc actually benefit from the better quality rubber? Can anyone advise please. As usual, this will be subjective to personal taste etc., but a rough guide would be useful please.
  21. No critisism intended, but being a one man operation, Owen does what he's good at and he's very good at it. I have waited several weeks for replies to my enquiries and this forum has many posting about him not enjoying emails etc but what the hell, his stuff is worth the wait and certainly there is no better price for the quality.
  22. I am 6ft 2in and had no problem in my spit until I got new seat foams and realised that I had been sitting on the floor. Now my head just brushes the hood, but only when it rains!
