Would love to help but not much better down here! https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-england-hampshire-60435309 Wagger mentioned the storm in 1987; was at sea South of the Isle of Wight and charged East to a Mayday off Eastbourne. They cancelled it when we arrived so about turn and a gentle roll back overnight to Portsmouth to find one of the ship's boats had been torn out of it's davits.

I am not selling stuff but this may help those hunting for bits and pieces. A former Naval chum who is into old lorries (!) has come across some Herald (1200 from the steering wheel) parts and rather them being 'disposed' of said I would spread the word. I have not viewed the parts, located near Chichester, but if there is anything you spot I can put you in touch. Dick ps Colin, I can always hang on to them if required to sort P&P!

Actually it was Von Moltke, 19th Century Prussian commander. Clearly I spent too long on the staff of the Army Command and Staff college at Camberley!

Support Pete and Colin's observations as I have a Triumphtune one picked up cheap at Stoneleigh years ago, and had to chamfer the front edge for my GT6. It is not just when you, carefully, first lower the bonnet but vibration when driving the car. Dick -

Busy doing this last night as a late stand-in Guest of Honour at the RNVRYC annual dinner. President removes stopper, others follow suit then past to left who pours his first, President has to wait to the end. Should always ask a lady to your left 'May I pour?' If Madeira also available this follows the port around. Woe betide the Midshipman who gets it wrong. Dick

My experiences the same as Pete and Doug's. Always helps being fairly local for a visit, bit of a trek from Yorkshire, but they understand Triumphs and what you are talking about on the phone. Dick

Pete, I used the next size up last year to put the boat in to do repairs and paint when COVID lockdown closed the harbours. Worked fine and once the sun came out was surprisingly comfy to work in. Once the job was done I sold it on (Gumtree) for about £50 less than I paid for it. Dick

Tim, Southern Area meet at the Seven Stars at Stroud, near Petersfield, on the first Tuesday of the month 1900. Definitely in Hampshire and lots of advice/help! Dick

Colin is correct, although in the early years of doing this there was an issue with galvanic corrosion issues between the copper sheathing fastenings and the iron fastenings used for the ship's timbers. This was eventually resolved and it meant ships did not have to be careened as frequently to both repair timbers and clean the hull; resulting in greater availability, and speed to overtake the enemy usually you know who. IIRC Cutty Sark has had her sheathing replaced and can be viewed in situ. Dick
