  1. The classified choice is better int he TRAction magazine, not too much on the Forum classifieds - not at the moment anyway. You are right about the colours.... i was looking for White, Royal Blue or Power Blue - my car is Signal Red ..... Andy
  2. Hi Rob, I have owned Heralds, Spitfires and a Stag.... I had always fancied a TR4 and when I had run out of interesting things to do with the Stag decided to do something about it. I, like you, discovered that there are rarely many for sale .... I had an empty garage for nearly a year after selling the Stag! Things I learnt..... price depends very much what you are after, the very expensive ones usually fall into two categories; incredibly original or extensively (and properly) restored. Good stuff can be found in the £18-22k range, but you will need to be very patient, or very lucky. With the greatest respect to the TSSC, the classifieds don't tend to carry many examples of TR's.... the TR Register classifieds are probably a better hunting ground. (I'm a member of both) If you are attending local meetings then word-of-mouth is your friend, put the word out and see what pops up. Classic car weekly sometimes has some good ones..... with all adverts it is always good to watch the market for a few months to gauge which cars have been on the market for a while, that will help you gauge why that may be the case or whether a deal can be had. good luck with the search, I found one eventually, so it can be done ...... 3. I have always had to bend the clips to open them outa little.... it's pretty obvious if you go too far! It does take some patience to find a way to works for you, I do have an old-style tool which does help, but it isn't going to change it from being a bit of a PITA. I think Chic Doig sells the tool on eBay sometimes. Take your time and stop for a rest and regroup before the frustration get to a point where you may end up slipping and scraping some paint! ....Andy
  4. No direct experience, however I'd expect Honeybourne to be helpful if you give them a call .... Andy

    Engine oil

Forgot to add.... on the price question, if you buy 1x 5l at shows or order 4x5l online that is just over £15 a pop, in my book that is great value compared to many other offerings! ..... Andy

    Engine oil

I've mentioned on previous threads.... current best all-rounder has to be Classic Oils Heritage: https://www.classic-oils.net/Classic-Oils-Heritage-20W50 Mineral 20/50, no smoke-screen about zddp levels (clearly stated on the label!) and at a decent price ...... Andy
  7. Yep, that's the way I did it on my old Stag ...... Andy

    Vitesse oil

I'd drop back to a decent mineral 20/50.... classic oils do a very well-priced option with 1400ppm ZDDP ...... Andy
  9. basically is is a way of mining (looking for) data using tags (labels) that describe what it is and the subject-area to which it relates (ontologies) making use of a bunch of algorithms as along the way. Software tools can use this method to find and present the info in a sensible way - you don't have to give two shake about where it was found. hope that helps..... Andy
  10. interesting point about forum/Facebook..... at the moment i think the they will coexist (along with twitter/pinterest etc.) for car-club related stuff, but the footprints will undoubtedly change. decent semantic data search engines will eventually make relevant info available to discover without needing to be aware of where it actually resides. ...... Andy
  11. The power of talking! Well done, glad you were able to get something sensible sorted out ...... Andy
  12. I had intended to get along to this one but in the end had some other commitments..... glad there were plenty of cars there, including a few Triumphs! ...... Andy
  13. so.... back in the day, i used to just wave to cars that were the same marque & model.... then, as we have become a less common sight on the roads, anything of the same marque. Now, given that any older car is a rather rare sight I'll greet any vaguely-classic vehicle (car or bike) with a friendly wave - most will acknowledge/wave back I try and avoid headlamp-flashing these days after a 1500 Spitfire mistook it as an invitation to turn right in front of me ..... andy
  14. I normally start around 24f 28r.... then adjust based on road manners to your preference ..... Andy
  15. MOT pass, no advisories :)

  16. Sorry to read this news, hope he is able to find another position promptly, never a nice position to be in. From a club perspective, I would expect due process to have occurred and to underpin an established plan.... I'd look for some confirmation in a future edition of the Courier, or, as mentioned, in the AGM minutes if the timing coincided - I Would not have expected any kind of announcement on the matter until after the formal HR process had concluded, given the date mentioned by Pete earlier, this looks to have been carried out with the appropriate degree of privacy and respect (albeit not the outcome we would wish for in an ideal world) ........ Andy
  17. Given that the car isn't actually yours, and she has a car of her own and insurance in her own name surely the simple option is to add your daughter as a named driver on your policy. Apologies if I have misunderstood the circumstance. ........ Andy
  18. Switching to Vredestein T-Tracs on the 4 after hearing lots of positive thoughts on them .... Andy
  19. Old Spitfire of mine failed the MOT many years ago when fitted with a TT twin silencer system for being too loud - it was loud, but I hadn't bought it to be a shrinking violet Went back to Mr Hurrell who smiled and said, 'hmmm, we did have some that were like that!' Straight swap for a pair of back boxes with acoustic tail-pipes which had a very good note to them - I don't think they are available from anyone these days. I'd tend to agree with Garth that the 'semi' sport is probably the best bet if you are not a fan of too much noise. ..... Andy
  20. Check timing is set ok, worth swapping for a known-good coil and distributed cap Check the diaphragm of the Stromberg for any splits (I rarely trust much a PO says!) , ensure the dashpots have oil in them and check the piston can be raised easily by hand and drops nicely. ..... Andy
  21. Welcome! Good luck persuading your friend to sell .... Andy
  22. Hmmmm.... sounds a bit odd ..... my Stag was a Mk 1, so no intermittent, but this may have some useful info: http://vitessesteve.co.uk/LucasStuff/Triumph-2-speed-wiper-wiring ..... Andy
  23. i'm 6ft, not particularly slim and consider myself to be reasonably strong.... i wouldn't go smaller than a 14" wheel. that is based on running 195/65 15's if you have narrower tyres it would make things easier on the arm. Personally, I'm not keen on the wooden-rimmed Moto-lita (but respect the choice of others ) either the look or the thinner rim, much prefer the leather one. .... Andy
