  1. I’m 6’ and not particularly slim ( ) no problem in Spitfire or current TR4..... my 6’4” brother had no probs in a MK III Spit. If you want to get in, you will! ....... Andy
  2. If already running H4 bulbs Classic Led’s have some straight-replacements, they are not cheap, currently about £70 a pair, but as a simple change with no other work the difference is quite dramatic, plus of course the current draw is significantly lower. ...... Andy
  3. My first 13/60 was Valencia with a tan interior... personally I prefer a black interior (light interiors always show marks at some point) but each to their own. .......Andy
  4. Its normally because the drivers side has a driver in it breathing out warm water vapour some of which finds its way to the screen to replace what is being cleared by the blower! ...... Andy
  5. You would remember it if you saw one..... From Wikipedia : Perhaps the rarest production TR4 model is the Dové GTR4 (and GTR4A) – a TR4 rebuilt as a coupé by a specialist coachbuilder for the Dove dealership in Wimbledon, London; only 43 were produced. The conversions were by Harrington Motor Bodyworks, mostly known for construction of the Harrington Alpine, a similarly converted Sunbeam Alpine. Although most were based on the TR4 model, the sales brochure pictures a TR4A version of these cars. The engines came with such period extras as a heater in the water jackets to assist early morning starts. Some were fitted with fully balanced motors by Jack Brabham Motors or Laystall Engineering in London, which was offered as an option in the sales catalogue. Two jump seats were placed behind the driver's seat using identical materials to the originally equipped standard TR4. A wood-rimmed wheel with riveted perimeter was fitted to some models along with auxiliary lamps under the front bumper bars. A metallised identifying sticker with "Dové" on it was fitted to the glovebox lid. On the rear deck to the left below the lid, was another identifying badge with the Dové logo. The side window glasses were specially shaped with a flat top edge to fit the new roof line. Each Dové was an individual order and some variation occurred in each car. Tinted swing-down see-through acrylic sun visors were custom fitted. The aerodynamics of the Dové gave it good acceleration from 80 mph (130 km/h) to 100 mph (160 km/h) in comparison with the standard version of the car. They were originally conceived by L.F. Dove & Co. as their attempt to fill the GT category for Europe, hence the French nomenclature with an inflection at the end of the word Dové. The cars were priced at £1250, almost as much as a Jaguar E-Type, and as such were uncompetitive price-wise.
  6. As Colin’s picture demonstrates, the move to stainless is more about longevity.... I’d rather pay for something that will still be very presentable in 5 years than staring at repeat rusty bumpers. ...... Andy
  7. I fitted Harrington s/s bumpers to be old Stag.... as above, they needed a little fettling, although nothing more than I had expected. I had the first set of Mk1’s delivered to the Uk so they may have improved since I had one. if I needed some for the TR I’d certainly go down that route again ..... Andy
  8. 4x5l delivered for £75 is the regular offer available from the Classic Oils website. Pretty good value however you cut it, anything less would be a bonus ...... Andy
  9. Nice, that will be fun .... do anything obvious, get a ticket, drive and fix whatever breaks.... enjoy!

    Membership fees

I’d say it is currently good value and reasonably aligned to membership costs of other, similar, clubs. As Pete says, it is a delicate balance, if you push over perceived ceilings numbers will stall and it becomes a topic of complaint. ..... Andy
  11. TR4 Dove, also known as a GTR4, supplied through L.F. Dove of Wimbledon. The actual coach work was done by Thomas Harrington & Co. ...... Andy
  12. Pretty tidy car at a sensible price, few bits and pieces to tidy up, but nothing scary .... suspect it will find a new home without too much trouble. ...... Andy
  13. I picked up one of these while on holiday in the United States https://www.autozone.com/cooling-heating-and-climate-control/heater-control-valve/4seasons-everco-heater-control-valve/135681?_requestid=7124741 Fitted easily, just need to fabricate a link for the cable ...... Andy
  14. Mr Triumph supplied a small range of open-ended spanner’s, a wheelnut wrench (of sorts) a hub-cap lever, pliers a make-do flat-blade screwdriver, jack and a plug socket.... the only thing I’d add is Pete’s wire, couple of real flat/cross-head screwdrivers and the phone number of recovery service...... then drive, enjoy and hope you won’t need any of them ...... Andy
  15. I just get mine MOT’d at the local branch of MoTest.... never bothered looking for any kind of specialist. I just ask them to check with me if there is anything they aren’t sure about - the things they have pointed out have always been spot on. .... Andy
  16. Welcome t9 the forum and best of luck opwith your search .... andy
  17. Ed China is a supporter, used it on a few occasions on wheeler dealers
  18. Welcome, enjoy your new car ! whatever the graphs say..... questions are good, ask away .... Andy
  19. Hi Toby, it can, unfortunately, be quite a challenge to get reasonable insurance at your age, the one thing I would say is to take 45 mins to ring and speak to the TSSC insurance panel members (don’t rely on web-quotes) ..... you may find out some nuggets of info in a conversation. earlier advice to rack up some NCB on a cheap/cheerful regular car is sensible - c1/107 is a good choice from a practical perspective, but I understand it may not sound very exciting! one point to note, I don’t think you ‘must’ have another car to have a classic insurance policy..... certainly I have just had a classic as only car in the past without an issue - limited mileage isn’t mandatory either (but does reduce the cost) good luck with with your search....... andy

    Facebook

Just revisited what I wrote 2 years ago, and to be honest I’d still stick by it - use the various media streams and communication methods that suit your own needs. The one thing which has changed is that Facebook does now support searches within a group (it didn’t 2 years ago) so you do now stand a chance of finding snippets of info from past conversations. At least that particular gripe has been addressed. ....... Andy
