  1. I hear the west bit may be coming sooner rather than later/never as all the lanes west of Norwich have very quickly become major rat runs.
  2. Spit1500 should have 1000 on speedo as it was from the standardised speedo era. About 20mph per 1000 rpm in 4th I think
  3. I can't believe that you are thinking of dumping a tank of fuel, that is sixty quid plus!! mix it back in a gallon a ata time
  4. 2 - convert to an alternator, and add an extra wire if you get a powerful one. Instruction readily available if needed. 4 - get silicone hoses if you can afford them, avoid Kevlar ones 7 - look for a mk4 air box if you want cold feed, readily available 9 - float is full of fuel or the sender is jammed, empty the tank and pop it out. 11 - some modern pads are rubbish, if not worse. Cardboard or wood is probably better! 14. - the column is adjustable on a Mk3 so perhaps try that first. 16 - try door mirrors if you think you need, the wing mirrors are rubbish on Spitfires 18 - the hood looks a good fit to me, can you get a better pictur? also, you are missing the correct breather assembly, I wonder if the inlet manifold is a Mk4 one. cheers colin
  5. George i think I have a block that needs line boring for cam bearings, has had a very recent 40thou rebore and what was obviously far too strong valve springs fitted afterwards. will have a look to see what state it is in tomorrow
  6. I have tapped them out successfully on a few occassions
  7. Different exhaust manifold or air filters probably
  8. There was a requirement to have the earth lead marked in yellow come in at some point during Triumph production. During the 70's I reckon
  9. Just spiral wrap it with yellow tape. it should go round back of battery by the way
  10. You can not declare as a VHI until next taxing it, so in the case of tax expiring end Apr 2019 the car will be without an MOT or VHI declaration for upto 11 months. The DVLA have flagged every over 40 year old car as not needing a check on the police computers, when the tax comes due the flag will change to MOT or declaration needed, and post Tax due date will change to an offence being committed if no MOT or VHI declaration. Then you get nicked.
  11. If you have the twin rear bumper lights the single long plinth one isn't interchangeable. Holes in different places....
  12. A local member had some "Sixfire" inserts made to fit into the standard Mk4 badges
  13. A smear of Hylomar wouldn't go amiss. suspect the housing may be corroded so might need replacing
  14. You need to be careful with 13 inch tyres now, much less choice in car tyres, but still plenty in trailer and such like. probably some Chinese specials about, not so many known brands.
  15. You are OK Justin as it can be demonstrated as a period modification, so is not classed as substantially modified. i suspect a Ford V6 and Rover V8 would be OK as well.
  16. I thought some of the suppliers had the grooves added themselves due to poor availability
  17. Get Dale to have a quick chat afterwards ( he is a busy man and won't thank me for offerinG too much of his time!!) for an opinion of what is lurking awaiting to come back and bite you. there is a CT meting at Potters Bar on 21st if you are about, the local TSSC guys have been going there since the North London meet closed down. Advise and suchlike freely offered.
  18. I have only ever had 1 Japanese car, Nissan Primera in the late 90's. Utterly reliable, did 35k in the year I had it, utterly boring though. A revelation compared to the Ford Escort TD I had prior to it. That was 5 seconds of turbo lag, then 2 or 3 seconds of noise and smoke and it was time to change gear. Horrid thing.
  19. I was mistaken, it is a Daihatsu Charade. Just waiting for the years to come through
  20. The Herald has a large Lucas horn, sounds more like a foghorn. Very loud. got Colonel Bogies on one car, was a life long dream 30 years ago... :-) those steibel ones look good.
  21. I think it is from something Italian, I will find out what.
  22. I think you just need to put a more sensible engine in it, make it a lot more usable.... :-) As an aside relating to the start of the thread, you can can get a combined temperature sensor and thermal fan switch that screws in place of the existing sender, nice neat solution.
  23. Should be all the same. the GE engine is the better one, has the narrow bearings so revs more easily. Shame it isn't the GK that is the temporary engine.
