  1. Different, unique, individual. 😱
  2. Lucky b*ggΒ£r ! I really should get out more in my Triumph πŸ˜ƒ
  3. I have an Accuspark unit in my 13/60, since 2015 and covered close to 8000 miles, it is fitted inside the distributor so still looks 'original'. Works fine & I am happy with it.
  4. Mine has a key less start system, press a button and it starts when it is ready too. To be honest the delay is minimal. As for fuel consumption, my costs have gone down. Diesel is still a little cheaper than petrol here, the Yeti is a 2 ltr about 150 hp and gives results for my normal local driving of 5.2 Litres per 100 Kms, that's how consumption is quoted here X per 100. I reckon that gives about 54 mpg, it's Sunday so my brain gets the day off. My previous 1.6 ltr petrol was using 8.2 lits per 100 kms.
  5. My modern is a Skoda diesel, the first diesel in a long time and boy have they improved. In February I got the particle warning light on, had to look up what it meant! At the time we were on our 3 week thermal cure and the car was only being used for very short runs at low speed. The first trip to the supermarket gave me the chance to give it a bit of a blast to heat it up, nice trail of smoke to start with 😱 but soon cleared. The ad Blue gets topped up once a year just before we go on hols. Demonised? OH YES. Just after buying it diesels were declared enemy N°1. Then the government declared they want to get rid of heating by oil, guess what we use. Followed a week or two ago by some bright spark wanting to up the tax on "SUVs" because they pollute, my Skoda is a Yeti so an SUV I guess. Triple demonised, I'll just keep my head down til it all blows over. . .
  6. The dreaded mix up, sorry to hear it. Can happen to any of us, all it takes is just a moment of distraction. I try and double check when I fill up, having the Triumph on petrol & the modern on diesel means I do worry about getting it wrong. Hope you still get away for the week-end.

    Trip odometer

Ben: Thanks for the link, I have scrolled through it and will give it a read over the week-end I hope. Ben & Poppyman : I have tried resetting to zero many times but it doesn't. The 1/10th drum turns but has difficulty engaging the unit drum it tries to turn it but doesn't quite seem to catch. This again leads me to think it is only slightly broken πŸ™„

    Trip odometer

I would like to tackle it myself as the problem should only be slight, although it could be a gear wheel is broken or some such. I spotted a speedo for sale on the bay a couple of days ago for a good price, it would give me something to practice on and could be a donor for the bits. However the seller hasn't replied to either of my mails yet. The inconvienience of sending the unit away is, apart from cost obviously, not having the car available for weeks/months (?). Thanks for all the comments and suggestions.

Not ground breaking, then. If I can't be first I'm not playing 😜

Thanks guys. I am tempted to leave well alone, don't want to risk wrecking the whole unit. πŸ™„

    Trip odometer

Good morning all, well it would be a good morning if it wasn't pi**ing down AGAIN! The trip distance dial doesn't work properly, Herald 13/60. It turns the 1/10th drum but when it gets to '9' it restarts again from '0' but the unit counter doesn't move on. I don't want to change the whole speedometer unit as everything else works correctly and is even quite accurate. I am contemplating trying to replace just the trip counter unit, have any of you done this? I realise that the unit in my current speedometer may be repairable as it is only 'slightly' broken but if I had a replacement to hand I would be happier in trying to change the whole unit rather looking to fix it. I have coped with the fault for over 4 years but I would like it to work if possible without changing the whole speedo and at a limited cost. I assume the speedometer isn't really designed to be opened and tinkered with but I assume it is possible with the correct tools, i.e. screwdriver, hammer and strong language. Any comments, tips, thoughts much appreciated. Thanks
  12. Yes I agree, looked too clean
  13. Yep, buy a differnt car πŸ˜€. A bit like buying a McDo then trying to make it into a Michelin 3* meal. I've got a 13/60 because that is what I wanted, if I had wanted more power I would have bought a Vitesse or Aston (chance would be a fine thing). As I said interesting thread no the less.
  14. As there is plenty of room in the engine bay of a Herald just bolt on a tuebo or supercharger πŸ’¨πŸ˜ Very interesting thread, most of which I understand ( if not all the techy detail). Clearly a subject close to everyone's heart as there has been no thread drift. Damn, was that thread drift - Call the moderator 😱

    Engine oil

so what you are saying is -yours is bigger than mine? Petrol tank that is😱
  16. Chris A

    Engine oil

Yes I suppose it does depend on the oil you use. My current 20/50 was bought direct from Luxembourg 69 euros delivered for 4 x 5lts. Basically an offer of 4 for the price of 2. Filters as you say a can of worms maybe. Β£50 is what, a couple of tanks of petrol?

    Engine oil

Change mine every year and the filter as well at no particular time, I don't do over 3K per year. Oil and filters are cheap, it doesn't take lot to do an oil change so there is no valid reason not to do it.
  18. £4.16s.0d Real money, when a penny was a penny 😁
  19. Wow, a modern one if it was priced in Pounds and new pence 😁 Very similar to the types I have. One of which goes back to my motorcycling days decades & decades & decades ago
  20. I've got a standard grease gun type. As long as I keep it vertical the oil doesn't leak out, it worked fine. A previous owner had used grease which the oil pushed out as there is a bit of pressure using a gun rather than filling drom an oil can, but oil can would be ok I think for a refill.
  21. I don't believe it was shown here, I can guess why 😁 If I remember correctly Fawlty Towers was but Manuel (?) the waiter was transposed into being of Belgian origins I think. When we first moved here we got repeats of Blackadder, dubbed 😱. The French love Mr Bean, at least that doesn't lose anything in translation. Monty Python was shown here - before I moved - can't figure out how they got the humour though. Do get some good stuff in English, Vera & Endeavour for example.
  22. No not seen it. Presumably that was on British TV? But doesn't surprise me at all. I only get French TV, or rather what the French put out which does include the occasional British series (some are available in English), such as Wheeler Dealers dubbed into French. There is also a French version.
  23. Do you mean it's odd the Fiesta has the same as the GT6 or that the GT6 has the same as the Fiesta .πŸ™„

    Battery Monitor

Modern gadget, I can't be doing with it. Smart phone that is, I'm sticking with my "reasonably intellegent" one ☎️
