It does tally 😀 I had already done a calculation in the past based on the limited info in the little hand got the same figures, or close enough. Am I correct in that the engine red lines at 5500 rpm?

You mean the waste gases produced by humans rather than the waste gases from cars?💨

I don't have that problem, I'll say to Mrs Me ' I'm just going out for drive, be back in time for tea'. When back I say 'I'm back, do you want a cup of tea?' Mrs Me replies ' Oh, have you been out?' I then think, Bu$$er should have stayed out longer 😡

In my case I use a Hamilton's cover, need to get a new one this autumn though, biggest cause of wear to the cover are that the seams come unglued so need regular regluing and our cats ! They love using the car cover to sleep on and strop their claws on when they climb on the car. As for paint damage no real problems but will second the comments about sharp bits on Heralds and the need protect the cover. I leave the windows slightly open in winter (cover is on of course) to aid airing and do try to remove cover on warm sunny days from time to time, I also run the car a little in winter as well.

All this Boris stuff is enough to make me go and live abroad. Oh, I do! 🙄

Hi all, I need to consult the collective brain. I have a small problem with the passenger door handle push button in so much as it comes out beyond its normal position. I doesn’t come off simply comes out of the handle, on the spindle but beyond its housing. To use it I have to turn the button so the groove lines up with the raised part. I now open the door from the inside. I have looked at the parts diagram on the Canley site but can’t work out which bit actually holds the assembly in place to stop it coming to far forward. I could dismantle the door car etc to look and then try and order the required part but would prefer to do it only once. The car is used a lot at the moment so wouldn’t want to be driving with a missing door card etc. I need/ want to order new brake caliper pistons so will add the door handle part to the same order. The new pistons are to cure a sticking brake. Earlier this week it was a serious problem while out for a 160 kilometer run. Thanks for the replies that I am sure will arrive in less time than it take for oil pressure to build up in a cold engine

White nail polish works as well as paint & it dries straight away.

I don't want to mention the 'B' word, but . . . In theory when it has happened purchases between the UK and the EU should be free of the exporting counties VAT but subject to the importing counties equivalent. Duty free should also be reintroduced. But who knows. 🙄

Many years ago, early 70's, when I was living & working in london me an' mi mates would go to a pub ( can't be sure of its name but think it was The Greyhound) on the fulham Palace Road at the week-end. They had live bands, free to get in but the beer was overpriced and not the best. One night the compare announced that the band due to appear had cancelled but not to worry he had a replacement - Status Quo. This was after their hit 'Pictures of Matchstick men'. Normally the pub programmed rock bands so there was a collective groan at the thought of a light weight pop band, some people even left. Surprise - they started playing the type of music we all know now! Personnnaly I have aways thought the 'cancelled' band was all a cover up and it was always going to be the Quo to test out their 'new' sound.

P.S. be careful as I also have French nationality) So, my question which is cylinder N°1 in terms of connecting a stobe light? I said it was the front one, closest to the fan. My friend who ownes a Simca Aronde said it is the one closest to the fly wheel. We asked another owner who agreed with the flywheel answer. I've got one of these and I still have the yellow plastic box it came in with a selection of posidrive screws and nuts & bolts. Quality that lasts.

Thanks Colin, I can save a bit of money then by not doing the bonnet. As for 'local' scrapyards, I'll need to set off after breakfast & take a packed lunch with me. i.e. they are few and far between in my rural setting. I think I'll get some sticky back stuff for the bulkhead and similar areas as you suggest.

I'm thinking of adding some more sound deanening material to my 13/60 convertible. Firstly: Is it worth putting any on the inside of the bonnet? From the photos I've seen with bonnets open on various models lots of owners haven't done this so I guess it isn't worth it and is better just to concentrate on the inside of the car. Secondly: If it is worth it I would want to use a product that is black, not the shiny aluminium types. Do any of you have any recommendations. Thanks
