  1. Colin it appears there's a detour at every corner! lucky there's no roundabouts
  2. Similarly in water supply repairing or replacing asbestos pipe keep it wet put bits in big plastic bags and take to a special tip all very costly. we air scoured reticulation asbestos water pipes with alternating pulses of air and water down the pipe to dislodge deposits it also stripped off some of the inner lining of the pipe but the asbestos fibres were not dislodged so process was considered safe and ok.
  3. I have a spare set of original asbestos ones but no post/courier service would touch them!! lost a pair of Type 14 brake calipers (scrapped by courier) like that because the pads were still fitted!
  4. Blame predictive text Matthew I do! sorry if I upset you, Peter T
  5. Must check have the calibration graphs somewhere
  6. Mine have the knob and detent ball but the knob has (-) left (+) right from Zero, so is one klick all the way left then forward one click?
  7. That's the filler plug right and up from the reverse shaft bolt, Matthew I just checked the single rail and 3 rail box's and its on the UK drivers side. I wouldn't remove the reverse shaft bolt to apply a sealing washer without having access to the top of the box so you can reposition the shaft when putting the bolt back in.
  8. would love to know how that circular saw got there? Fitting end to a Chinese truck! After Covid and China's attack on Australian goods and verbal attempt at bullying against Aus' the PRC is definitely on the nose here.
  9. Lindsey I have the same problem but my Sprint has the same lockable cap as PH, I found a near soft poly washer that fit in the jar of odds and sorts but would like a suitable permanent replacement, so will stay watching
  10. Carb looks good but the box has had a hard life!
  11. I have an then new Aus made Lucas 15ACR in the Spit 20yrs old when I converted it, English Lucas 15ACR in the Vitesse converted in 74 still working, the 76 Sprint is the original Lucas but a new diode pack 5 years ago. I do have a couple of spares JUST in case new Bosch/Lucas and a relatively new Prestolite A127 that I had to put a new regulator pack in. It could be I’ve just been lucky as fellow club members over the years have had several replacements due to Lucas failures but they have stuck with reco Lucas units
  12. in this 21st century and we've learnt nothing, dictators ambitions! hopefully the Oligarchs will sort him out when their free movement and loss of income/assets start to hit them where it hurts, he's only in power whilst he has their backing, good to see some Russian peoples objecting & he calls them Traitors! he's a nasty bit of work! Could the integration of Ukraine also be about Russia's wealth here are some interesting facts re Ukraine's resources and potential wealth
  13. If there's pitting at the end and under the hose interface, bead blasting to remove ALL white stuff then use JB Weld to fill and reprofile it works well and when sanded the same colour as Aluminum. I've done it a couple of times on special Herald/Spit/T2000 Thermo covers & a friend rebuilt his Jag's water pump mounting similarily.
  14. I had a similar one early 80's think it was American the oxygen was produced using pellets in a tube, similar two canister arrangement on a frame, worked well easy brazing
  15. Aah but if I remember correctly when is Front not actually FRONT, answer when it’s a Triumph rear transverse spring, when you put the FRONT stamp at the front you read it backwards and when the stamp is at the back of the spring it reads it frontwards. Just to confuse you further I believe In reality it makes no difference where the FRONT stamp is located I’ll get my hat and coat on the way out! It’s why I love Triumphs there just illogical.
  16. I visited a 600mm water main being laid near Seal Sands in the North East which had to be bedded on sleepers to stop it sinking in the trench. Here in Melbourne we had an empty 2100mm welded steel pipeline during construction it floated out of its trench during a heavy rain event when the trench flooded, contractor had got ahead of himself and not backfilled, pipe was replaced 10 lengths of 10mt long 10mm thick pipes scrapped, only good for drainage culverts!
  17. Wonder if they shut them down under very high wind events to stop them over speeding, we destroyed a small hydro when the guard valve controlling the water flow rate failed.
  18. Just watching Eunice on our News here in Aus you’ve taken a beating tv showed two semi trailers blowing over and flat roofs just peeling off hope your all ok and min personnel damage
  19. Easier said than done Pete I've done battle with these BBBgrs too how come what looks easy is so hard!
  20. Just done one at a time. Time will tell if it worked, hey I'm positive, I can go to bed now!
  21. Thanks Nick and others will do it tomorrow
  22. Correct not run I think from memory the head gasket was a Payen adhesive type. eons ago when I returned to Aus in 74 whilst awaiting the Vitesse’s shipment I had use of my sister in laws old early 60’s Hillman Minx with a solenoid controlled auto box (interesting as it used to stick and had to be cajoled to work!) well there was also a sheared head stud which I was able to extract without removing the head or loosening any other head bolts and then tighten the new stud bolt down with no subsequent leaks or water loss I think the head was alloy to Pete L will correct me if wrong!
  23. The Assoc of Motor Clubs local here do vehicle checks privately and sometimes for the police from the old rego records there are a few rare local manufactured classic vehicles eg Holden XU1 and Ford GTHO we reckon by the checks we get asked to do there are more of these cars now than originally manufactured. one recent check resulted in the police charging a seller with fraud!
  24. Slight tangent question, I have rebuilt a spare 1500 Midget Engine for the Daughters Mk2, I fitted the head using the old nuts and suspect washers I have subsequently obtained the Mini style nuts incorporating the washers and I want to replace the old separate nuts and washers, should I undo each nut in turn and replace in sequence torque up each separately before moving onto the next one OR release all head nuts and retorque them in the normal sequence.
