sulzerman
2500 saloon The solenoid on my starter motor is on the blink. The question is, are the new hi torque starter motors worth the extra money? They are about £80 extra. Many thanks

Bob Horner
I've got standard on my GT6 and spitfire and never had an issue. However, recently replaced one on my TR4 (the old one packed up) and at the time couldn't get hold of an original one in time so fitted a new hi torque one from The TR Shop (cost not much different). Must say impressed with how easily and quickly it spins. Had an issue where needed to spin the engine over repeatedly quite a few times (distributor fault) and I reckon with the old one the battery would have given up. Although that may have been because the old one was worn. Bob
Pete Lewis
as they use so little current they will via their gearbox fly the engine over even when the battery is dying they are a small high speed motor that drives the pinion through a small gearbox to develope the torque needed one of the best upgrades you will benefit from Pete
NonMember
Can't say I've ever felt the need for one. All mine have always had standard starters and the only times I've had even slight problems were when the brushes had failed or the battery was dead. ahebron
I fitted the Isuzu starter motor to my Vitesse 6 and the first time i spun the motor with it I thought I had lost compression on all cylinders. I had to do a compression test to check and nothing wrong with the compressions. It is that good and was very well priced.https://www.teglerizer.com/triumphstuff/73gt6br_tropperstarter.htm

sulzerman
Found problem with starting was the ignition switch (see pic), starter is fine. So will not upgrade starter yet, if it ain't broke don't fix it!
