The experience of the MOT station / garage is that it's now more common for tyres to need replacing owing to perishing cracks than running out of tread. Perishing at year 3 is not unusual for many brands - including 'premium' ones. All in the zero ozone depletion compounds... Gully I successfully made use of the Black Circles lifetime warranty. They gave me an 80% credit on the hardly worn, perishing rear Bridgestone tyres. Gully
Wagger
Does anybody remember 'Tyresoles' as advertised in 1957 Motor Show literature. Stick on treaded hoops for bald tyres. Unbelievable. I have the magazine somewhere. Here is a link to a 1960 ad. https://www.thenostalgiashop.co.uk/products/tyresoles-tyre-retreading-original-advert-1960-ref-ad2959 And treadcutting devices for lorry tyres. Paulfc
I don’t remember “Tyersoles” but often visited Birkenhead market with my Dad to buy leather for him to repair the family’s shoes. You could also buy rubber stick-on soles with the resplendent name of “R-Soles”!
johny
You should have used 'Blakeys' shoe protectors to avoid R-Soles😁 Wow I see theyre still available... BLAKEY'S SEGS – The Original Shoe Protectors (blakeys-segs.co.uk)

GrahamB
Whatever happened to remoulds? I can remember then in about 1980. Tread may have been good but what about the carcass.
johny
The carcass was supposed to be closely inspected before reuse in remolds. Must admit I never had any problems with them but the new tread never lasted as long as the original. I always assumed a softer, lower temperature compound was used so as not to damage that of the original carcass...

BLAKEY'S SEGS – The Original Shoe Protectors (blakeys-segs.co.uk) My dad used those and repeaired all of our shoes until the moulded rubber ones appeared in the 1950's. Peter Truman
I use 165/75/13 tyres and there now getting hard to get I can get Nankang 165/75/13 R13 at a good price, anyone know what there like? Alternatively 175/70/13 in several major suppliers appear a little easier to get
Pete Lewis
many use the 175/70 as close to the original rolling radius but a bit fat on a 4.5 rim Pete
Peter Truman
I’ve got 5.5 Minilite replica’s so 175’s ok yhanks
Pete Lewis
we had the same on the Vit6 had 14" on the 2000 so i could fit stag disc/ calipers as far cheaper than 2000/2500 parts like half the price pete
Peter Truman
Thought about 14in wheels when I brought the locally made Superlight's (Minilite copies) but they were 6in wide rims, too wide so I settled on the 13in wheels with 5.5in rims
Pete Lewis
the vitesse post with a saggy rear has 14x6 just too big 13 x 5.5 on a Vit are about the best look and make a tyre fit correct too Pete
Colin Lindsay
'Part Worn' tyres are a local thing over here - anyone else see them in their areas? Supposedly taken from accident-damaged vehicles, but can you really trust good tread on a tyre that may have had a serious impact? I have a mate sells tyres as a sideline but he claims to only use the spare tyre from cars they have picked up at accident sites or bought from auction, and I must admit to having used some in the past, within date and no visible wear at all, for about £15 each.
