Meet Lora. Just drove her home, a bit eventful as it's been years since I've been in one! A few pics.

I assumed it was the same one that ended a day or two ago on eBay! The photos on there and yours look very good. It was an article in practical classics featuring a resto of a Mk3 in red with hardtop that made me want one in the first place, makes for a very good looking car.

I guess this was 3rd time lucky! As soon as I saw the bonnet peeking out of the garage I knew this was the 'one'. The drive home was an eye opener as I've not driven a Spit for 30 years, so crunchy gear changes (I got better!) heavy steering and brakes that need a good stomp.  Needs a decent carpet and a soft top but for now I'll just use the old girl as is.

Forgot to mention there is a hell of a squeak coming from the offside bonnet catch. Goes away at 40mph+. Needs investigating!

Alex

That's the speed the mouses screams get drowned out by the road noise... 😄

The meeces have gone! I undid and lowered the catch that bolts into the footwell and that sorted it. Plus I put the steering wheel on the right way up. I looked at a carpet set from Rimmers but come on now...HOW much?? eBay has much cheaper ones so I'll probably go for that. Found the sun visors in a box of bits in the boot and after an age scrubbing them they have come up pretty good. MK3 seats seem to be unobtanium but I did see some rather good replicas on the bay, but idiotic prices again and not really needed just yet. After sage advice from here I will flush the engine tomorrow and THEN put in new coolant!

I am clearly on the best Triumph forum there is. No doubt I'll have more and more questions!

Thanks everyone for your support, laughs, and of course, help!

Moulded carpets from the club shop are £300 - £370 (I suspect the £300 might be an out of date price…) members prices. Those are made by Newton Commercial. Rimmers are generally the most expensive option. Though they hold a lot of stock so can sometimes be the quickest option. I would very much recommend a moulded carpet set. I’ve never been happy with the cheaper set I put in the Herald, and the moulded set I’ve not quite finished putting in the Spitfire looks sooooo much better!

Cheaper Mk3 seats do show up, but you’ll almost certainly just be getting the frames at that point and have to fully trim them. Would be interested in a link to the replicas you’ve seen, just for nosiness reasons. I have been wondering how easy the frames would be to home fabricate as they’re not that complicated a shape.

With carpets you usually get what you pay for, but there are quality limits both top and bottom. I needed a good durable but useable set recently, didn't want concours but had to look nice so went to Coverdale as the best compromise. Doug has a set in his GT6 too.

I bought a set off an eBay seller a few years back and to be honest it's fit only for the bin... thin rubbish. Similarly with the odd pieces that come up ie 'side pieces', they're just cut-out felt in terrible material. I'll go back to Coverdale for another Herald set in a month or two. Shop around though and let us know if you do find a good seller.

its down to the £££s you want to spend  there is no doubt moulded carpets are the best fit and durability

loose fit vary a lot in fit and quality  coverdale is a fair and proven compromise

there were some fleabay sellers that never provided the goods some time back so take care on who you order from

Close...but not the same. Probably a lot more comfy though and with runners.

Alex

Ah right, yeah I was thinking you were meaning OEM style repros as really I’m surprised nobody has produced any given the demand for them and scarcity. If you decide to try those measure everything very carefully. The Spitfire seats are designed to fit into the depressions in the floorpan and around the prop shaft tunnel (you can clearly see the cut out on the inboard side of the roundtail seat backs). So generic seats might end up sitting you too high and / or fouling on some part of the floor.
