  1. Throwing?. After I retired early, I used my LGV during the summers as a Agency driver, it paid for the Diesel for the R-V and travel to Spain in a Winter. Busy day on multidrop (not my favourite) Last drop back to the yard, call from scheduler, Can you "just", go back (20 miles, 5 pm in commuter traffic), and pick up a collection. The firm had phoned it in as I was turning in their yard, by the time they phoned, and I get the message I was almost halfway to knocking off!!. Near shattered the passenger door window!!. Before Mobiles, I could have been back in the yard clocked off and on my way home!. As it was I got a very late tea.😡 Pete
  2. My first encouter with the Swindon M-R, like Pete, was towing a Large T-A Caravan. My wife has her hands covering her eyes for most of the transit!.🤣 The dog, who normally just slept a whole journey, was barking at the traffic!. Pete
  3. I alway`s liked that range of Nokia`s, they where pretty much "bomb proof". Mine got dropped from the cab to the deck several times, and survived being sat on, and thrown. (dont ask!) Pete
  4. Back in that era, A LOT of cars spent up to 2 years sat in fields, Unsold. Also If originally registered in Jersey/Guernsey they where brought back in and knocked out cheaply on a new reg number. Ford did that with low mileage Sierra`s for one. Partly a ploy to inflate sales figures. I don`t remember exactly when DVLA closed that loophole?.
  5. A Bit like Banbury then. Used to be going down M40 you got a huge caffeine lift around J11!. Pete Edit. Looks like N-M beat me to it. Going over from the Humber Bridge to the M180. You pass Piper Crisps. The aroma follows you!. P
  6. White vinegar. My go to for any sort of descaling these days, buy it in 2kg resealable packs off tinernet as crystals and mix it to my needs. The last job was cleaning up the copper standard light fitting, old fashioned gas light style for the Garden. +several coats of lacquer still looks shiny. Pete
  7. In my Case RAC recovery Phone number.👍 We have it for the Camper and it covers me in any vehicle. Pete
  8. Your right Clive. As to how the steel is made, allegedly the issue, whilst having a measure of lack of QC, was also down to the percentage of scrap used in the initial run said to be substantially higher than (say) UK steels. As far as I am aware all Japanese Ore, is imported, We carried hundred thousand tonne a time, and/or the limestone from Australia to Japan in the 70`s when I was C/E on a Bulk/Ore carrier, as well as Scrap. A lot a galvanized/treated steel is used in modern cars as the steels are thinner, in an effort to reduce mass. (and one suspects, costs). I had more to do with "boiler" plate than automotive steels. Witnessing testing at the steelworks prior to fabrication and welding. Interesting subject about which I wish I knew more. Pete
  9. In a word Water, or more accurately moisture. The tanks are often left partially full or near empty, condensation then settles on the exposed surfaces and corrodes OR settles to the base of the tank, being heavier than Petrol, and similarly starts a corrosion cycle. The amount of moisture in the atmosphere is the deciding factor "dry" storage will produce less, cold/damp storage more. Keeping the Tank Full is of help, less space for condensation to form. And of course using the vehicle, changes the atmosphere. "Pin holes" are often formed at the point where the metal has impurities, often from mixes with high "scrap" content in the mix. Japanese cars where notorious in the 70`s for poor quality steel. Japanese steel makers used a high percentage of "scrap" in the mix, similarly with Russian Cars of that era too. There was a big trade in scrap to Russia, from the UK back then. Once those cars hit UK`s salt laden roads it was "good night Vienna". My sons 8 year old Toyota, was like a lace curtain in places. Brit cars where bad enough but these rusted for a pastime. Pete
  10. Look like Turnbuttons? Or parts thereof. Pete
  11. Look online for Wedge type washers that are frequently used when when bolting up RSJ`s. The taper is around 5 degree
  12. The colour of the oil, is not really a clue to the oils condition, the only real "test" is analysis. Modern oils, I am advised, retain the particles within the oil, hence the relatively quick colour change. Modern oils can go 18K miles before being changed. All my recent "moderns" use this as the yardstick. P.s. this does not apply of course to the "classic" cars where the original formula should be followed. Pete
  13. Bottom left corner, looks suitable?😁 Pete
  14. The "off the peg" PAS unit I have takes the triumph wheel exactly, so it might be?. Pete
  15. One of the "suggestions" that was passed to us "sprog" apprentices, when faced with recalcitrant fasteners, was to tighten the fastener first, the theory being that, in further stretching the Bolt/Stud you broke the "binding". pete
  16. There are many horror stories about exploding Vessels. As a pressure vessel examiner, I came across them from time to time. Not all had to do with explosive material. Some stick in the mind, the guy who tried to save my dying son was himself killed attempting to cut up and old railway tank wagon. A surveyor examining a Sewage Vessel being severely burned when it "fired". Calor vessels had to be certified "gas free" before we could gain entry, but one still killed a guy, without explosion either. There is a post on here (I think) ref; a fuel tank that exploded?. I even brazed up the seam on a Motorcycle tank. If was FULL of hot water, but now I would not even try it!. ( the ignorance of youth?). As for Chemically sealing tanks, I still wonder if the presence of Ethanol, would have any effect? Pete

Same applies here. I am one of the lucky one at the moment in that our village sees a bus every hour or so. Not early enough to get anyone to work before 8am (ish) and none after 8-9m. But those in the more remote hamlets and villages don`t have a service AT ALL. As it stands, when we have a Hospital Appointment, without a car, you would never make it. A taxi, is a £20 each way ride. Anyone on chemo;, and we know a few, faces a bill of over £100 a week JUST on transport. Badly thought through, rushed "policy?", and not confined to any particular political party either, just some are more enthusiastic than others. Pete
  18. Merc; Sprinter (typical of many cars/vans) Insert key in the ignition and turn to position II. Press the menu buttons. ... Press up arrow until you see Service A in xxx miles or Service B in xxx miles. Press the 0 reset button on the side of the instrument cluster and hold until you hear a beep. Pete.
  19. The following:- metal pin car door courtesy switches , brings up a load on Amazon? Obviously not the O/E. but nevertheless usable. As little as £3.99. free next day delivery, on many too?. The price of O/E ones?, somebody is extracting the Urine, In my humble opinion. Pete
  20. Had to really think about that. Its a LOT of years since I did DC theory. So one assumes the circuit is fed (initially) from the Ignition switch live?. To have a complete circuit it must return via the Alternator live? to show as a light on the Speedo?. However when the alternator output rises the lamp is then only in the Live wire and the light extinguishes, no return circuit?. Pete

Citizen Kahn, too has in recent times expanded the London area outward, what is galling to those who live inside, is the fact that they pay to go OUTSIDE, from home and pay again to get back in!. The even more scary bit in my view is that so many other Urban Authorities are watching this space. My personal view being they see it as a new form of taxation, what then will happen when all the "polluting vehicles" are removed from the road, and the lucrative revenue stream dry`s up?. Like with E-V`s they will need to find new streams. Do you think they really feel the motoring public is that stupid? Pete
  22. Interesting. I have amongst the "kit of parts" that is my 13/60, what appears to be a (nearly) new fuel tank. I have been mulling over the probability of treating the internal surfaces, in an attempt to prevent or delay the onset of corrosion. In the light of the change to higher and higher levels of Ethanol in fuel how might this affect such treatment?. Pete
  23. Some of the Sprinter ones are too. But the Airbag light is not, and the Seat belt warning light, (SRS) which is what I had, will not self/onboard reset either. So sadly I was between a rock and a hard place!.😒 Pete
  24. Currently no problems whatever. But it was "out" on and off Most of last evening. (error 404) Pete
  25. Those holding the wings on my Peugeot 107 are plastic plug type clips and self tap screws, with age they snap for a pastime!. Some even use plastic centres which are pulled tight to hold the panel. Pete
