  1. Took Pete's advice and dropped my spare pair of 150CDSE carburettors off with Dave at the Carburettor Exchange in Leighton Buzzard. Dave quoted £248 for the refurbish but warned that they might take up to 12 weeks to complete because of his workload.
  2. Hi and welcome. Great looking Spitfire there.
  3. This pair don't have the breathers, which was the type Paul was looking for, and I also have a Smith's breather valve to go with them too. My other pair, which require a refurb, do have the breather stubs which remove the need for the Smith's valve. Once refurbished these would be a direct replacement for the carb set currently on my car. Nick
  4. I went on a carb buying spree two years ago when the carbs on my GT6 were running far too rich despite leaning the adjustment to the maximum. Then the car started running tolerably well on it's existing 150CDSE's so the compulsion to change carbs died away. Paul has spurred me into excavating the spare carbs from the back of the cupboard and to make a decision to sell and/or refurbish and use. Nick
  5. Thanks for the offer, Pete, two sugars please. What does the check involve? To me, the spindles seem nice and tight and everything appears to be there. As these are a spare set I could probably bring these tatty carbs to the Raven one club night ? Nick
  6. Stromberg 150CDSE carburetters, Swedish/USA market version:
  7. I have a tatty spare set of Stromberg 150 CDSE's and am looking for a recommendation for a specialist to both functionally and cosmetically refurb them. I believe there is a company in Leighton Buzzard - has anyone on here used them, please ?
  8. Some time ago I bought a pair of unused new old stock CD150SE carbs without the breather tube connectors. When I checked the model numbers they were apparently for the US and Swedish market so may have slight differences in spring/needle/jet setup to the UK versions. Although unused the linkages had slight storage corrosion. If the OP is still looking and/or interested I could dig them out of my parts cupboard.
  9. Thanks for the suggestions. Both the engine and overdrive gearbox are certainly later replacements so it is likely that the diff, propshaft and drive shafts are also not the factory fitted originals in my GT6. Pete warned me some time ago when I was replacing diff seals and queried circlip sizes that I probably had the small dia shafts. Guess I will have to ignore the arthritis and climb underneath to check what I have actually got fitted.
  10. The differential in my GT6 is apparently fitted with the small dia quarter shafts and I am looking to replace it with a diff with the stronger larger dia quarter shafts. According to the excellent information provided by Canleys my existing diff probably has 5/16 bolt holes on input and output flanges whereas the replacement diff has 3/8 bolt holes. Does this mean I would have to change or modify the prop-shaft flange and the output shaft flanges to suit the slightly increased bolt sizes ? https://www.canleyclassics.com/technical-archive/different-differentials/
  11. Hi and welcome from a near neighbour in N. Herts.
  12. Good luck, I hope that no news is good news. 😃
  13. Pete, did you see the GT6 he is advertising while you were there ?
  14. Hi and welcome. Just love the looks of your GT6 on the original style wheels ! (But then I may be just a little biased).
  15. All the goodies I want, except for the chassis ........ Anyone want to go shares ? 😂

    Endeavour ITV

The whole episode was a bit of a car crash .....
  17. Took the GT6 out for an airing today and to fill up with petrol. As I pulled into Tesco filling station I found I was being followed by a BRG TR3A on the same errand. As the TR driver said "it gives the forecourt quite a retro feel".

    Snow answer to that ....

    Snow

Plenty of fluffy white stuff in North Herts but probably going to melt quickly as there appears to be no frost or ice underneath.
  20. I have stop/start on my Polo GTI but I always hit the disable button as soon as I start the car so it never comes into operation. My battery appears quite healthy but it is only three years old. It appears to hold a charge well even when the car is unused for several months, unlike it's Mazda and Toyota predecessors which failed to start after three weeks lack of use.
