  2. Are the two bearings use in the swing axle rear hub a standard size, if so what are they and a good supplier. Many thank Paul
  3. When I rebuilt my Vitesse many years ago bought standard springs but ended up buying uprated as it lowered the front simply because I thought it looked better. Regards Paul
  4. The bracket I used was cast, part number 147899 looks like the one. Regards Paul
  5. Fitted Alternator to my Mk1 Vitesse 2L using the alternator bracket from a Triumph 4 cylinder iron engine i.e. Spitfire, Toledo or Dolomite 1500. Regards Paul
  6. Meaning life is only temporary, and death is permanent,I would go with that. Only way I will stop paying taxes without a visit from the heavy mob. Regards Paul
  7. I don't bodge other people do, and its only a bodge if someone finds out then its a "temporary" fix. Regards Paul
  8. Now shows as incorrect or no longer for sale, could be me as on the tablets. Regards Paul
  9. Fitted to the stud before the wheels, cheap spacers? ?, I must have put them somewhere safe so not sure where they are. Is it one of the symptoms of the disease Triumphitist that you cannot throw away old, wrong or useless parts?. Regards Paul
  10. Bought freelander studs from a local Land Rover specialist for my Vitesse, the threaded portion was to short to use with the steel wheels, so a waste of money. Did not like the idea of extending the threads with a die as a cut thread is weaker than a rolled thread. Regards Paul
  11. Just a thought do you have to use a higher torque setting with all alloy wheels. My modern with alloy wheels is nearly twice the setting for my Vitesse steels. Regards Paul
  12. On my Vitesse just needed a clutch plate, friction disk, from the later Dolomite 1850 which used the single rail gearbox. All the best with the repair. Regards Paul
  13. Found Mike Papworth very helpful with bits and advice when some teeth broke of the gear cluster in my Vitesse gearbox last year. Gearbox is three rail fine, single rail, input shaft with J type overdrive, so not one Triumph ever made but all Triumph bit. Regards Paul
  14. There is a recently opened new road north of Norwich, the NDR known locally as the road to nowhere, the design of the roundabouts make it a contender for worlds most dangerous roads. As for the cost of the bat gantries unbelievable, think it soaked up the pot hole budget. Regards Paul
  15. Checked two dipsticks for Mk1 2l part number 127653 stop to top mark 9 11/16 plus an inch to bottom mark. This is assuming they are the correct ones. Regards Paul
  16. Just pump some grease through before you put the axle back in the car, there was some bad inner seals about outer diameter to small. I had one although it was in the right way when I pumped in grease the seal was forced out of the trunnion a replacement from a different suppler was ok. Regards Paul
  17. Both seals lips face towards the diff on the swing axle suspension, the outer one stops grease getting into the brakes. The inner one allows grease out so grease can flow through the bearings when applying grease gun. Regards Paul
  18. Been using Penrite 20/60 in my Vitesse 2L MK1 for some years at suggestion of one of the parts suppliers though they are mainly TR. Regards Paul

    Car SOS

Used to enjoy Top Gear, used to enjoy Wheeler Dealers never enjoyed Car SOS, suppose someone must as they are still made. No accounting for taste. As the old saying, never let truth spoil a good story. Regards Paul
  20. I used a plate sold for seat belt mounting not just a nut and washer, different types available and not pricey. It's your life and your passengers so make sure it's safe. Regards Paul
  21. Look like I used the same sets in my Vitesse Convertible as Chris with reels on rear wheel arch, had to drill a new fixing hole. Look at http://www.securon.co.uk/seatbelts_layouts.htm for available options. Regards Paul
  22. Any reason you can not use a setscrew of the correct thread?, think they are M14 X 1.25. Regards Paul
  23. Been wondering about the practicalities of having a manifold made in stainless steel as a copy of the cast one. Anyone tried it? or any thoughts, I know stainless ones are available but have heard negative comments on fit and finish and problems sealing rest of system to them. Regards Paul
  24. Picture from my WSM bit different from dave.vitesse. Regards Paul
  25. If you don't the only firm fixing of the exhaust is the manifold bolts and studs. Regards Paul
