  1. Agree welder is very usful, have made gates repaired fire grates, barbeques, fans and various tools etc. have even managed to do welding on my Vitesse for myself. You have been warned. Regards Paul
  2. Hava a fourteen inch fan in my 2L Mk1 Vitesse, used lengths of stainless steel studding through the core to fit with plastic tubing over the thread which is in the core. Had to cut away some of the fan case to clear water pump and crank pulley, also made sure I could change fan belt without removing fan the cut out in picture. Installation is tight but has worked for years and in the last few weeks with temperature up in low thirties, use a Revotec controller in the bottom hose and fitted an override switch and light to show when fan is running. Should add that the radiater has three deep by thirty nine rows of tubes which I was told is a high density core when the radiator was rebuilt. Regards Paul
  3. Whent on a group walk this morning, taking the Vitesse convertible, part way round heavens opened people seemed more worried about the car sitting in the car park with the roof down. Drove home with the roof down biggest problem apart from strange looks was rain on inside of screen had to keep wiping it with an old towel. Rain still hammering down but as the say do more in your Triumph and the seats needed a clean. Regards Paul
  4. Pound has been dropping against the dollar for donkeys year was well over two dollars when we joined the EU in 73. Look at other threads not all stick to cars. Regards Paul
  5. Have bought old spanners at car boot sales and autojumbles then adapted them with a file, angle grinder, welder etc. for special applications. Regards Paul
  6. Switches can look the same but are contacts open or contacts closed, you need contacts closed, that is with the plunger fully extended. Regards Paul
  7. Some rain last night cooler out than in this morning for a change so window open. Regards Paul
  8. So if there was another vote and the Brexit supporters lost you would support their call for another vote. It could go back and forth for ever. Regards Paul
  9. "I do not agree with what you say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it" Evelyn Beatrice Hall. Regards. Paul
  10. Probably and like the Brexit vote if they don't like the answer fight to change it, wonder how far the plans are advanced to only have one candidate in elections to stop the voters getting it wrong. Thought we lived in a democracy. Regards Paul
  11. Probably the usual crap parts, ordered a speedo cable from Rimmers earlier in the year would not screw fully on. Spoke to a very helpful person at Rimmers who said he would check another cable and send it out to me, second cable fitted perfectly and was send FOC no request for return of faulty cable. No connection to Rimmers. Regards Paul
  12. Perhaps Triumph did it to give us something to moan talk about fiftey years down the line. A social experiment and we are the lab rats, or is the heat getting to me?. Regards Paul
  13. Run a Vitesse 2L Mk1 with original mechanical pump not been a problem in the current hot weather, out this morning temperature in high twenties, why change?. Regards Paul
  14. Have a Mk1 2L Vitesse with electric fan, some water pumps on offer not very good, been driving it regularly in the current hot weather. Out this morning in it, temperature in high twenties, guage in red after restart after short stop but soon drops as water starts circulating. As Pete says tempurature sender, is your fuel guage accurate, near as a Triumph one would be as both guage run from the voltage stabiliser. Regards Paul
  15. Often find that if I drive down the middle of the road at the speed bumps with the relatively narrow track of the Vitesse you can go between them. Regards Paul
  16. Have a Mk1 Vitesse, uses same UJ on rear drive shafts, just had to change one as noisy at slow speed and when moving off. UJ not that old or many miles but at least the Mk1 gives warning. Club shop shows a UJ at about three times the price of a standard one, are they that much better?. Regards Paul
  17. Had what I have thought was a noisy tappet on my Vitesse, turned out to be a cracked exhaust manifold. Regards Paul
  18. Have used Halfords blade rubbers needed a little adjustment of the blade holders though. Last blades I bought at Stoneleigh for my Vifesse where expensive and rubbish like a lot of repro parts. Regards Paul
  19. Recently replaced the uj on the offside drive shaft from my Mk1 Vitesse. As I hate bleeding brakes and use silicone fluid removed outer drive hub and brake back plate complete with shoes etc but not disconnecting the brake line then removed drive shaft with trunnion housing. Very quick and easy with the right equipment including spring lifter and rear drive hub puller. Have used ezibleed in the past, one thing I learned was not to remove connection to wheel first, pressure in systems blows fluid out off the air line. Fortunately silicone brake fluid. Regards Paul
  20. Replaced all the bushes I could with Superflex a couple of years ago on my Mk1 Vitesse including the rear spring eye bush. There have been posts with people having trouble fitting them because they have not removed the outer steel tube of the old bush from the spring eye. Talking to the supplier they told me they use different rating of hardness depending where the bush will be used. Regards Paul
  21. Where is the electricity coming from, when was the last power station built in this country?. Regards Paul
  22. I always adjust rear brakes on my Mk1 Vitesse with the wheels on to properly seat the drum, does seem to make a difference. Regards Paul
  23. Studs I bought are Britpart, been taking another look at this using a spare rear drive shaft complete with brake drum etc. Thread length is marginal when used with steel wheels, but if I drilled out some of the nut thread from the cone end it would in my opinion still leave plenty and the nut would fit further on the stud. Any thoughts. Regards Paul
