  1. Item number 63 on page 113 of the spare parts catalogue described as 609602 finisher roof header black. Listed as not available which would indicate that it is obsolete, so you are looking for used. Regards Paul
  2. The one shown in the second post is a lot more robust than the one usually sold as it has a metal body. Regards Paul
  3. Just a nut on the back. Switch I used is a Lucas SMB429 contacts need to break when plunger is pushed. Regards Paul
  4. Know the feeling went in Aldi's the other day apart from food came out with 105 bit set. Any one know of a support group for this affliction. Regards Paul
  5. When I did this on my MK1 Vitesse the thick wire from the solenoid, the connection to the old starter, just connected to the new high torque starter. There where no other connections or any alterations to the wiring required. Regards Paul
  6. Fitted solid rack mounts years ago to my Vitesse never a problem, only thing to watch is are they wide enough to hold the small nylon plunger in. If not a piece of water hose and a jubilee clip works well to hold it in. Regards Paul
  7. The two speed motor in the Triumph Dolomites I had may years ago just had a big resistor to reduce the voltage for low speed, the motor just had two wires. I have the setup in my Vitesse, can not say if there is more flow at high speed as fitted many years ago. Regards Paul
  8. Had 1500 FWD in the past all single carb. was told not enough from for twin, as far as I am aware all RWD Dolomite 1300 are single carb. The 1300 FWD was made in single and twin carb do not know if a servo was standard. Regards Paul
  9. I own three MK1 2Lt convertibles the last one bought seven or eight years ago, but only one is roadworthy, the other two have been off the road since ?? and I have never had to put them on SORN. So who knows. Regards Paul
  10. Manufactures recommendation is two years but as with many things just covering their backsides. As I understand it is only the corrosion inhibiter that degrades, its a pity that this can not be bought separately. Regards Paul
  11. https://citroenclassics.wordpress.com/2012/03/17/what-is-the-right-coolant-to-use-in-our-older-cars/ And others of the net, antifreeze in my modern car is for life but in my Vitesse every two years. Regards Paul
  12. Glad you got it sorted, no question is daft to the person asking it l would say anyone making fun of it has a problem. Keep asking that's how you learn. Regards Paul
  13. I fitted spring eye poly bushes to a Mk1 Vitesse last winter and it certainly had a metal tube for the bolt, bushes were superflex. Biggest problem was removing the outer metal sleeve from the old bush from the spring eye. Regards Paul
  14. La Manche? I thought it was the English Channel that kept Europe isolated from the free world in bad weather. As the Russians used to say (still do?) the difference between us is that we thought we were free whereas they knew they were not. Regards Paul
  15. Happy to blame Pete for the snow. Have used a power sander on old Artex, which contained the A word blown dust which contained the A word of brakes for many years. When at worked been covered with dust when the fire proofing was installed went back to some of them for alterations and refits, men in noddy suits and respirators to remove even a small piece, no one else allowed in the building. Will reach my three score years and ten in a few months so how much Brexit will affect me perhaps only those with twenty twenty hindsight will be able to tell me. Regards Paul
  16. And once asbestos asbestos was good. Have over six inches of snow here, last time we had appreciable snow was five years ago. Is this climate change or the result of Brexit?. Cannot be normal as these days someone else is always to blame. Regards Paul
  17. What bothers me is how often "experts" get it wrong and politicians jumping on band wagons i.e diesels and the need to change names from global warning to climate change. Regards Paul
  18. We do live in a democracy don't we? I thought this meant majority vote wins. Regards Paul
  19. Fitted polyurethane bushes to the rear trunnions of my Mk1 Vitesse as part of a job changing all possible bushes. In my opinion the crush tube was to long allowing the trunnion to rock, ended up reducing the length to the same as the tube for the spring eye bush. Used silicone grease on the bush and copper grease on the bolt. Regards Paul
  20. 68vitesse

    Why?

Does there have to be a reason why?. Regards Paul
  21. Would not start with the engine or any mechanical part, the body and chassis in my opinion are the places to start. Get this right and mechanical parts are easier to source and repair. This is just my opinion and preference, all the best with the restoration. Regards Paul
  22. Didn't think that Vitesse water pumps where drilled and tapped for a fan. Regards Paul
  23. When I lost two teeth of the third gear on the layshaft cluster in my Vitesse gearbox l bought the parts for the repair from Mike Papworth. Found him very helpful and generous with his time and information, he offered to check all the components of the gearbox including the selector mechanism. Drove to his workshop, about 300 miles round trip, for the bits and checks then visited the motor museum while in Coventry. Regards Paul
