    Stud remover.

Those can also be used on screws whose head has been stripped .... assuming enough of the head is sticking out to get to it!

    Stud remover.

Heat usually helps... try to keep it in the stud...
  3. I stumbled across a Shuco 1/43 not too long ago as well... There was also a terrible blobby soap freebie from France... not really a "model" though... There are of course the Aurora 1/32 MKII as well as the Ocar resin Spitfire Le Mans kits as well, all 1/32...
  4. Thanks Chris for this! I won two of these, sans windscreens of course... As a slot car (Scalextric) enthusiast I am always on the look out for models/toys that are close the scales we usually race (among but not limited to 1/43, 1/32, 1/25-24...) This toy comes in at about 1/25 scale (based on length). Which means combing it with the Lindberg "GT6+" 1/25 scale kit ought to make a decent 1/25 scale Le Mans Spitfire! I always wondered why the MKIV/1500 body wasn't more readily available. I only know of 1/43 (Spark I think or Vitesse brand) models and the StarSun 1/18 scale and a very very rare metal 1/24 scale metal "kit" that was made in Germany I believe.... Once my real-car project is done I will get back to building slot cars. 🙂
  5. Hmmm... I am currently combining a Californian spec 1500 with my MKIV.... the Cali car has a reinforced rear-end so maybe I should graft that over as well... (or just use the Cali chassis...)

    LIDL/ALDI TOOLS

German service used to be an oxymoron.... Actually I have had better service from "discounters" than better known names.... There was a report on German TV a few years back where they traced where "German" strawberries were coming from. Turns out quite a few were coming from the Czech Republic and Poland. They told all the major brands about this and showed them proof and only Aldi responded, apologized, thanked, pulled the products and relabeled them as "EU strawberries", and broke off all ties with those suppliers. All the other brands remained silent... I helped train Aldi mgmt to open up stores in the USA and they were by and far all very competent and genuinely nice individuals!
  7. Since I had to buy a second Spitfire to make them mate and have one Spitfire in the end I have spare bumper and I will be testing all the methods I can think of. It's not too terribly rusty but since I can't use it (US style with lots of holes for all the Federal stuff) I might as well give a try!
  8. her backside is rounder too.... Oh if my wife walked in when I was writing that...
  9. I got the last one I had off by using penetrating fluid and wearing latex gloves.... it was only finger tight...
  10. Here in Germany people are unloading their cars they got as a Covid projects plus the weather is getting worse... I would hold out too...
  11. My daughter used to make jewelery and she had a pair of pliers that ended in round tongs that are very fine. It opens wider than an inch and I used that without damaging anything!
  12. An acquaintance works an doctor's practice. A woman came in for something or other and they did a Covid test on her as part of the routine... she was positive (and had been on vacation...) . The acquaintance went shopping on her lunch break and saw the SAME woman shopping... since she didn't want to cause a scene she asked the store mgmt to make an announcement. They basically asked for anyone who knows they are positive but are shopping to come to the information desk... Nine people showed up!
  13. My first Spitfire had that to access the slave cylinder. It was actually a hinged flap complete with a sliding lock! As the then brake fluid would eat through the seals i was happy I had it as I changed them out at least twice...
  14. To be fair though he did put a LOT down in writing and he can be seen a lot in videos but still a great loss. I loved his enthusiasm for all things Triumph.
  15. I had never seen one before and I was taken so by surprise that I did not take photos. It looks exactly like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bond_Equipe#/media/File:Bond_Equipe_2-Litre_Convertible.JPG but left hand drive. And a LOT tattier... firberglass needed to some work and a lot of TLC but looked good. No idea if it ran... They guy would sell it (Belgium) but the owner has to agree to restore and not part out...
  16. I need one of those for the electrical smoke..
  17. Is this a good time to point out I wasn't even 10 years old in 1979? 🙂
  18. In theory wouldn't a magnetic drain plug also keep the bits from going round the gearbox and causing more damage? Or are they heavy enough that that really isn't an issue?
  19. I will put fiberglass on mine... those things rust just be being looked at!
  20. Well I am picking up a US spec 1500 on Wednesday and I will be tearing it apart and I am planning on transplanting its braking system... I will take a good look at it...
  21. Thanks! I will let you all know what we do in the end... 😉
  22. Ah... did not know that was an option. 😉 Well I am likely going to have to go for a "prototype" approval for my Spitfire. As I mentioned before I have making one car out of 2 and since a lot of the car is from a US car I might as well build the car I want and get approval rather than getting "exceptions" for everything that is not "original" or "standard". The German MOT aka TÜV basically allows 3 permission types: 1. H for Historical: The car most be original or "in period" or EVERYTHING down to the radio. Pain to achieve but has allows for cheaper insurance and let's you drive where there are smog restrictions. 2. "Regular" Permission. Easier to achieve but anything that is not standard gets scrutinized and must be added to paper work (at a cost usually). Changed even to the size of tire or wheel are technically not allowed and Higher Power forbid you make "upgrades" like stainless steel brake lines. 3 "Prototype" literally "one-time" approval. Expensive (I have read from 60 to 600€), but essentially the car gets a once over and if you can convince the engineer it is road worthy he allows it. The best way is to get the engineer on board BEFORE making the changes and then he lets you know if he will allow it before you put it on. Given I am taking the best out of a MKIV (looks) and 1500 (US doors, rear bumper etc.) I reckon this is easiest... I wasn't planning on anything too crazy for the Spitfire brakes. I just wanted tandem and I don't want a dummy light on the dash. I don't think I need GT6 brakes or anything crazy like that. Mark Field set me up with some nice pads and shoes (that he forgot to send me in December ! 😄 ) and I think I will be fine. Great tip about hollowing out the PDWA though!
  23. Ha! I saw that on Facebook. Glad you found your was (back) here. Facebook is good for initial contact, organizing events and meet ups and maybe even selling stuff but for in-depth (i.e. long-winded) advice forums are still the place to be.
