  1. Big thanks to Ray, Pete and also Bern and Ange (also Doug, for the flimsy carb diaphrams and coloured wiring diagram ). Really enjoyed the tuition and meeting other members. Bought a new car cover, though forgot to buy a set of the Courier DVD's. Dave
  2. Hi. Hi is the HQ's easy to spot. Google says it on the right of main rd (A304), coming from the west (though they can be wrong), please anyone. Dave
  3. Thanks. I am rather a tootler. 3 and 1/2 thousand is prob the highest I go and that not very often. Will give it a go. Did a comp test a few months back and all between 190-200. (200 was the suspect cylinder), so hoping nothing too bad!. cheers, dave
  4. Seems cars can be pretty different. The centre of my Vit top hose touches bonnet. Car standard in these areas as far as I can tell. Cheers, Dave
  5. Also replace thrust bearing?, though if it's running an older one, that may well last longer than a modern new one?.
  6. Thanks. The other plugs are quite sooty black, though dry, which is usual for this car when driving in Bristol. No 2 cylinder is also quite dark/black, though looks damp/shiny. Thought it maybe some unburnt petrol, mixing with the soot, though can't smell any petrol. cheers, Dave
  7. Hi. If a cylinder is starting to burn oil, could it/does it, look like a sheen, all over the business end of the plug, please?. Thanks, Dave
  8. Is that because of old design, or potentially old components?. Dave
  9. Thanks chaps. Will look no further into it. Dave
  10. Hi all. Today I went to fit new plugs that I bought a while back. In the past I've used BP5ES, though new ones are BP6ES (didn't notice at the time). I think the 5's are usual? and the 6's are cooler?. Any reason why I should not try them ?, maybe have to alter timing/mixture a bit if I do?. Thanks for any advice. Dave
  11. Cheers Pete. Have been adjusting for some time with car not raised, so can't spin wheel and just seeing if it will push move. Is this ok?. Just though if can get max adjustment this way, then easier for me (axle stands in loft, etc). thanks, Dave
  12. Yes. Well done. It's a type of job (for me anyway) that you, think what's going on here then Dave
  13. Just out of interest, is a bit (can still push the car) of shoe/drum rubbing after adjustment (these are manual adjust on mine) ok, ie, won't get too hot. Thanks, Dave
  14. Seem to remember there was some sort of crush washer shown on parts diagram (for Vit) for screw. I used loctite and did up tight.
  15. Hi. bit confused here. Have read to dip new seals in hyd fluid. Also read to smear a bit of red grease around the seal. Also read NOT to get red grease near the seals. Any advice please. Thanks, Dave
  16. Hi. That plug may look a tad lean. Not completely sure, as maybe modern fuels show a less brown colour on the plugs?, some folk say. Dave
  17. Brill. Look forward to meeting you and the others. Dave
  18. Hi Pete. Just found out I can make the day, if that's ok and not oversubscribed now. Very interested in anything to learn and if there's a bit of time of time for a bit of advice on my Vitesse I'll be coming in, then even better. Cheers, Dave

Wow. Is it in the blood, you are maybe inferring?. Did he coach you?. did you practice, before the bonnet?. Something I would love to be able to do. I guess look at lot's U tube and filter the good ones and practice a lot on scrap?. Dave
  20. Hi. Mins appears to be leaking from the the seal, though clutch operation still ok. Can the leak do any damage to any clutch parts, etc, ,as may be a while before I can replace seals?. Cheers, Dave
  21. Hi. If they are back in the day bushes, then they may be fine, as can last for many years (even if they look dodge, eg bulging/frayed at outer ends). More a test of putting load on them to see if there's play (never been sure of how to do this for all joints). Dave
  22. That stuff is often very fine particles, I find it reassuring knowing it's not swimming around as a fine abrasive.
  23. Maybe I was lucky, though I managed to get most of it out with a large plastic syringe (£1.00, delivered off Ebay) and have also replaced the filler plug with magnetic. Dave
  24. Hi, and thanks. So far have only looked on E bay and only found aerosol/canister for compressor air gun, will look if specialists have it to brush on. Out of interest, it's not like some underseals, that can dry out and start lifting?. Cheers, Dave
