chrishawley Posted August 8, 2022 Report Posted August 8, 2022 Time to refill the diff (Spit 1500). If any is still left it will be EP90 GL4. So my reckoning is to put in a straight EP140 GL4. Any recommendations for a suitable brand? Or, as much to the point, any rip offs to avoid? I note previous vibrant exchanges on the issue of GL4 v GL5. Can I assume that GL4 is still the safe, 'don't worry about it', bet? Thanks
Mjit Posted August 8, 2022 Report Posted August 8, 2022 Any GL4 oil won't have additives that attack phospher bronze. A GL5 oil might or might not have additives that attack phopser bronze. Any reason to use EP140 rather than EP90 though?
Colin Lindsay Posted August 8, 2022 Report Posted August 8, 2022 I use Dynolite, supplied by James Paddock. Seems to give a quieter diff. Even if it's proven not to, it makes me think it does, so that's half the battle in itself.

Pete Lewis Posted August 8, 2022 Report Posted August 8, 2022 Im a firm believer for normal usage do what triumph designed and the car does what it says i have used a EP140 GL4 in the 2000 diff and yes its improved whilst |GL4 is very available why bother with any thoughts about using a GL5 and the risk that may develop pete
johny Posted August 8, 2022 Report Posted August 8, 2022 Well I thought the conclusion was that if youve seriously increased the power being transmitted by the diff GL5 has more of the additives that protect against wear so it could be beneficial. However then some do use additives which can damage yellow metals....

Badwolf Posted August 9, 2022 Report Posted August 9, 2022 Just ordered some Comma. Gets good write ups from several people.
Pete Lewis Posted August 9, 2022 Report Posted August 9, 2022 just dont use it in the gearbox that would make the synchro rings struggle to cut through the oil Pete
Nigel Clark Posted August 11, 2022 Report Posted August 11, 2022 I've used Comma EP140 GL4 in the diff of my Scimitar. The rattly Salisbury axle is noticeably quieter. Nigel
Iain T Posted August 14, 2022 Report Posted August 14, 2022 Redline heavy shockproof 75-140 works well in my Vitesse. Redline seem to have very good reputation. Iain
