Daily Spit 1500 body repairs & more..

Recommended Posts

I had bought epoxy primer & Gravitex from a supplier i have used a lot.

Everything was in stock when I ordered..

It started with Gravitex not in stock.

Mailed 2 times.. no reply.

Few days ago.. sorry no epoxy...

Looked better from my whole order only the hardener was in stock.

Mailed back and said I wanted my money back.

2Min later a reply and they where going to send it back.

Sooo.. got Epoxy primer from a very local place, but needed to buy 5 liter 😅.

So worked on Fox a bit more today.

Stripped the whole bootfloor, sandblasted the hard to get to area's, rust convertor and epoxy (just applied with a brush).

Looking great, quick question why is there a number 3 on piston 2 ?

I knew this was coming 🤣

I have weight every piston and conrod , so gave the pistons numbers and conrod had some one.

So then I tried to match the total weight up of each piston/conrod as closely as possible.

Hope it makes sence 😅

But conrod are still in the same spot as before.

The rot..

Drivers side outrigger had a bit repair in the past.

But the bottom connection to the chassis was rotten now.

Also needed a plate welded in the chassis (first wire brushed inside, rust convertor)

Passenger side had pin holes around the drain hole & the same spot that was rotten on the other side had been rewelded years ago.

So fixed that outrigger to, just need to drill a drain hole + wax it all to prevent rust.

  • 4 weeks later...

And today sanded some reactions in the primer away to then redo it.

Sadly yesterday my compressor packed up after i had done the rear arches.

So went after my uncles compressor to finish the job

Opened up my failed one, bore scored and air pressure escaping from the oil dipstick.

It was a cheap one that was now 15 or 16 years old.

I just bought a new one and will get here wednesday.

  • 2 weeks later...

Took the engine off the stand and on the cart to put on backplate abd flywheel.

Hoping to fit it next weekend.... 😅

Ive read that you best let it idle at 1500/2000rpm for 20 min to break in everything (has a reground cam and new pistons etc)

Is this right? Or what do others do?

there is a bedding in  rules for new cams and followers     i dont  fully see what that achieves

never had to use it , certainly would not have happened on the triumph engine line

is it a special cam ???  or a std profile   hope   they are new followers  mix   old and new is a disaster

How old is the clutch in your car? If its done a few miles a new one might be a good time to change while you swap over. As for running in, i would drive it. Have the engine have load, keep the revs down and slowly increase them over the next 1000 miles. Then change the oil and run normally.

My clutch feel isnt great and noisy.

I do always have a kit in my stock.

Also going to look at the gearbox, otherwise swap it to with one I have rebuild 😅😅

Cam is reground mk3 profile from canleys.

So nothing to wild !

All followers are new.

I did put a standard cam in this engine (before it really started to use oil) as lobes where gone.

After 6000miles still lookes like new and now bedded in, just drove it and watched out a bit in the first few days.

As im normally going to change the engine.

Im going to look at the gearbox to.

So it was time to put one ive rebuild together.

This one has a new/used input shaft, NOS laygear etc

Sadly after 3 times getting the box apart i got a bit mad.

Time for a new 'kitchen' top for the workbench.

Maybe make it bigger 🤔😅

Yesterday loads done.

Spend at least 8 hours on Fox..

Gearbox check, but found a bit of play at the front bearing.

Didnt want to risk it fail next year or so, so got it out.

Overdrive had a big service, and put o the rebuild gearbox.

And chassis was painted.

Today going to fit the box to the new engine and install the whole lot.

+ she needs to run today !

So another busy day.

input shaft bearings (single row ball race ) will always give the shaft some float/wiggle as it is not supported in the flywheel spigot which steadies this up and the mainshaft spigot doesnt help it much as that will float as well till its all on the engine ...  its quite normal
