  1. Anything or anybody unsecured in the car is an unguided missile in the event of an accident. Regards Paul
  2. I used Triumph White for the stripe on my Mk1 Vitesse, Signal Red No32 for main colour, think the code is 19. Regards Paul.
  3. Do you call this a summer? we had proper summers when I was young. Regards Paul
  4. Do you mean a non Triumph?. Regards Paul
  5. At least with petrol you have an idea, my Bosch battery strimmer will not start sometimes but if you remove and replace the battery all is well untill you stop and try to restart. B***dy modern stuff. Regards Paul
  6. Nice bright winter's day out in the Vitesse, very nice with appropriate clothing, no such thing as the wrong weather only the wrong clothes. Regards Paul.
  7. The Mk1 2L Vitesse air box just had short stub pipes, the same design of air box on the Mk2 had extension pipes to alongside the radiator. Why?. Regards Paul
  8. When I first got my Vitesse the carbs had different weights on the pistons, perhaps something to check?. Regards Paul
  9. I would agree, it's the tank neck to wing seal which could leak water into the boot. Regards Paul

  11. While going through my collection of might come in useful I found a Spitfire Multi Spark, is this one of those must haves best consigned to the bin?. Regards Paul
  12. This morning put the Vitesse back to how it was when the problem started with the exception of distributer cap and leads and despite some fast driving on the NDR of about ten miles car did not miss a beat. A more logical diagnostic approach would have got me to this point sooner, just need a longer run to convince myself. Regards Paul
  13. Just read Kevin's reply, the chap in the video tried with a lighter and a mini torch, so as does happen the product gets blamed for user error. RTFM Regards Paul
  14. Quite true, still to test rotor arm, plugs and leads. Regards Paul
  15. Seems to be a theme here. Old and simple is best. Regards Paul
  16. Have various bits of aluminium sheet for same purpose. Regards Paul
  17. Been having a similar problem with my Vitesse fitted with lumination electronic ignition, started to misfire after it warmed up. Ended up disconnecting the electronic ignition and fitted a spare distributer complete with ancient leads, cap, points, condenser and rotor arm with rivet. No sign of misfire since, will have to try the cap, leads and red rotor arm from other distributer to isolate the problem at some point. Regards Paul
  18. Just a moan, the sealing washer for the fuel pump has swollen quite badly after being in contact with petrol, the seller of the kit makes a big point that the pump diaphragm is fine with ethanol. Regards Paul
  19. While fuel system apart decided to replace the fuel hoses with the gates barricade bought from the club shop awhile back. Despite all that's been said about modern petrol the old hoses were still very flexible and in excellent condition after being in use for a considerable number of years. Regards Paul.
  20. Yes, just polished stainless steel 20 gauge, made mild steel formers for the two smaller parts sandwiched the stainless sheet between two formers and held it together with pop rivets. Then hammered the stainless around the formers using a piece of steel pipe for the internal curve, only welding was on the external curve of the hook shaped pieces. Regards Paul
  21. This morning stripped the carburetors in my 2L Vitesse, been running not quite right, one of the diaphragms has a couple of small holes. My question is should the diaphragms be replaced as pairs or just change the damaged one?. The pack contained two diaphragms, so both replaced. Many thanks Paul.
