  1. Have balanced propshaft using two jubilee clips, just make sure they won't snag the handbrake cable. Regards Paul
  2. Found my Mk1 2L ran better without additive, mainly use Tesco super unleaded as it's convenient. Had the head of the engine just over a year ago, failed head gasket, no sign of valve seat recession, so didn't bother with valve seat inserts. Regards Paul
  3. I've also got a three rail gearbox with the fine spline input shaft and J type overdrive in my Vitesse, always assumed the clutch was single rail Dolomite 1850 but Rimmer's list different cover for Dolomite and Vitesse. The difference between the Dolomite 1850 three rail and single rail clutch is just the driven plate, cover and bearing the same. Regards Paul
  4. Once drove several hundred miles to collect a screen after being assured it was in stock, when they went for it turned out to be computer stock, not Rimmer's but one of the main Triumph parts suppliers. Regards Paul
  5. Been having ago with stainless steel, still needs work and polishing but first attempt, the long bit is the most difficult. Regards Paul.
  6. I've seen pictures of chassis outrigger repairs with a metal plate on top then welded on the accessible edge and from underneath. Like this. Regards Paul
  7. What's the chassis to ground distance, it will tell you if it's a suspension/chassis problem or a body one. On my Mk1 Vitesse when it had a lean it was a suspension issue. Regards Paul
  8. An even more dicey subject is pollution caused by pets, particularly dogs. Regards Paul.
  9. Don't tell anyone it's had a replacement chassis, brand new ok but a secondhand replacement can be a minefield.
  10. What have you got against Triumphs carefully designed anti rust system?. Regards Paul
  11. I have a late Mk1 2L Vitesse with seat belt fixings on rear wheel arch and side of transmission tunnel to brackets on main chassis rail. The very early 2L Mk1 Vitesse, embarrassingly long long term project, has seat belt fixings on hood well frame, inboard of the B post, and a fixing behind the handbrake to a reinforcing plate under the transmission tunnel. If I ever get the early Mk1 back on the road I will convert it to the later seat belt mounting points. I'm over six foot tall and find the convertible seats very comfortable with sufficient leg room. Regards Paul.
  12. Around here, Norfolk, recycling centres will not take antifreeze, but once a year have been having hazardous waste days when they will take antifreeze, liquid paint etc. Last one I attended the queue was enormous. Regards Paul
  13. See through windows, wasn't that an extra in days gone by, along with gas flowed ashtrays and reclining hub caps. Regards Paul
  14. Some years ago I flattened the thermostat housing on my Vitesse using wet and dry on a piece of thick glass as it was distorted and never sealed properly. Well worth checking how flat it is. Regards Paul
  15. Wasn't Signal Red one of the few colours from start to finish of the Herald/Vitesse range. Owner of a Signal Red Vitesse with Triumph White stripe. Regards Paul
  16. I have a 68 Mk1 Vitesse convertible and am over six foot tall l find the leg room adequate and have driven it while wearing size 12 walking boots. The 2L Vitesse's have different seats for the saloon and convertible and if saloon seats are fitted to the convertible it will reduce the leg room by about three inches. A thread I started which might be of interest. Regards Paul
  17. It's a well known fact that clothes shrink if not used. Regards Paul
  18. Regulations quite clear about warning lights, depends on vehicle age. https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1989/1796/schedule/14/made Regards Paul
  19. Have used an adjustable in hose Revotec fan controller in the bottom hose of my Vitesse for some years without problems. I also fitted, at the same time, an override switch and a warning light which comes on when power is supplied to the fan. Regards Paul
  20. On my Mk1 Vitesse have fitted relays and thicker wire and changed to halogen outers, dip a lot brighter but the wattage was higher, from memory 2 X 50 as against 2 X 37.5, never changed the inners. I have fitted an alternator but that was due to a failed control box and quality, lack off, the ones on offer. A C40L dynamo output at engine 1660rpm 25amp A 15ACR alternator as fitted to later GT6 28amps at engine 2870rpm Figures from workshop manual, can be affected by different size pulleys. Regards Paul.
  21. Have used Waxoyl in the past diluted with white spirit to aid spraying, used a cleaned out Schultz can and spray gun, don't kink the delivery tube or the can will explode making a lovely mess. Regards Paul

Chassis jacking points are quite low with a flat tyre, I've always carried a scissors jack as my trolley jack won't go under them when the tyre is flat. Regards Paul.

Agree with the above ref. green stuff pads, fitted them to my Mk1 Vitesse, when I went back to cheap white box pads instant improvement. Regards Paul
  24. Got some off cuts of leather from an upholsterer's and recovered my Vitesse steering, just watched a couple of utube videos, turned out ok. Regards Paul
