The Professionals

After watching another programme with Martin Shaw in, my Wife has just started The Professionals series 1 and I had completely forgotten they were all driving Triumphs.

Bodie & Doyle in TR7s, Cowley in a Dolomite and the girl in the story driving a Spitfire. Makes it much more interesting 😊

They would have carried on with them, but BL couldn't deliver the same cars every time so Ford took over 🫣🙄🤷‍♂️

That explains the Capris and Escorts I remember

Ford were always good a product placement. In the Sweeney they had a clause that said no Ford to be driven by criminals, therefore the Jags were the baddies. It changed after 1989 though.

Look at the latest James Bond films and Ford and it's then product line were all over them. Even a new Mondeo before they were released.

There is only one James Bond car as far as I'm concerned, DB5. Goldfinger was the first film my dad took me to see as a father and son thing. I was too young to see it according to the rating but being tall there wasn't any problem.

The car is a bit out of my price range - by about six zeros

I work in hotels around the West End, a while ago they had the previews for the last bond film, including the Aston with mock scuffs along the side.

Later films not my cup of tea, haven`t watched any since Sean Connery or Roger Moore.

Bond cars?

DB5/S/10/12, Z3, Lotus and possibly a 2CV as a joke, etc. etc?  A Stag???           Pah!  Toute arriviste!  Contemptible!

The one, the only James Bond automobile is so clearly described in the very first book:

"Bond’s car was his only personal hobby. One of the last of the 4½-litre Bentleys with the supercharger by Amherst Villiers, he had bought it almost new in 1933 and had kept it in careful storage through the war. It was still serviced every year and, in London, a former Bentley mechanic, who worked in a garage near Bond’s Chelsea flat, tended it with jealous care.

Perhaps, this one, although he did rather lose it when the fiendish LeChiffre dropped a 'stinger' in front of the car later on in that book.

2CV as a joke,

One 2cv that had to do stunts required modifying and became a 4 wheel drive with 2 engines, one for the front wheels, one for the rear. I gather they weren't ' synchronised ' and it was lethal to drive and not a joke. Yes in the film it was ' surprisingly.

Back in the 80s we were on holiday in Iceland and pulled in for a break at a point where the outflow from a glacier went into the sea. Purely by chance there was a technical crew filming a (large) model submarine deguised as an ice burg with a model helicopter buzzing around.

Forget which Bond film but think the one with Grace Jones
