    Herald 13/60

My 13/60. Was a Sunday Lunchtime "Buy". Put a "silly" bid in on E-Bay, Came back from a (pub) lunch, went online and then had to tell SWMBO "we" where the owners of a Triumph Convertible, It`s only taken since 2015 to get it 1/3rd back into service!!. Hey-Ho, One day it will be finished, (A bit like Mike the painter and the pope`s Cistine chapple.) Liked the lines having had a Vitesse in the 80`s. Pete
  2. "Discussing" Fuel prices with eldest son over the weekend, he lives in Texas. This Morning I topped off the Diesel locally (£1.49 Litre)!!. He`s currently paying $2.10 a GALLON. Probably just as well His latest "acquisition" does 7mpg!!. I cannot "get" the Ethanol idea. How does farming "corn" to produce fuel, help with a global shortage of staple foods?. Especially when there is actually a global surplus of Oil?. It`s like the rush to close mines and demolish Coal fired power stations?. When carbon capture was actually a viable prospect?. Drax "B" had a plant running for years, part of which was fed to nearby hot houses to improve Yield!, as well as heating the hot houses with the output from the Turbines. Pete

Co-incidentally, I was looking at this earlier on Amazon. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cordless-Multifunctional-Professional-Lithium-Ion-Replacement/dp/B09GG4Q6LW/ref=pd_lutyp_ci_mcx_mr_typ_d_2/257-7638066-3598726?pd_rd_w=4dlP2&pf_rd_p=4fa411b3-2d7d-4e7f-b06c-84ea0e1db612&pf_rd_r=NEPEDMGPV6NHSXXXBMJV&pd_rd_r=ce21ad55-25be-441b-9dbc-a49080026fc7&pd_rd_wg=UoTtD&pd_rd_i=B09GG4Q6LW&psc=1 Pete
  4. 5", (122mm) Black plastic guttering Circa £6 for 2M. Should form nicely with a bit of heat from a Hair dryer.? Visit to an industrial building site might even get you an off-cut for free?. Pete
  5. Or in this case?. A Feline(y). OK! getting my coat. Pete
  6. Yes. Came as part of the Naval Architecture And ship construction needed for marine engineering certification. So we’ll see who else knows likely Dick will. Pete

What are the Torque ratings for those. I tried to find out on the website. but it is unclear?. I have seen 400Nm for around £100 on`t tinterent?. Pete
  8. I`ve got some 2mm slitting disks,100mm dia, for the angle grinder, one of those would cut the bolts through without damage to the wishbone?. Pete

    Poorly made parts.

Years ago, we could get the raw gasket, material and make our own, Kept sheets of it in the Ship Engine stores and made 90% of our jointing and gaskets, with a small ball peen hammer on the parent surface. Most of it came from Walkers "lion" works, in Woking. Pete.
  10. IF it`s just the turret you want?. I would put a slitting disk through the bolt under and over the wishbone? In retrospect I think that`s how I did mine?. The other option is to split the nut with a Hammer and Cold chisel in the old fashioned way?. Pete

    UK gone mad

There was A certain gentleman In one shipping company I worked for, who`s reputed party trick was to pass "gas" into an empty bottle, and then ignite the resulting escape. Never saw it ,but t was comfirmed by several who had sailed with him. Pete
  12. Hence the use of Carbide Lighting. Pete

    UK gone mad

The Continent is even worse. Some Campgrounds I have "seen" 180v. reverse polarity, and NO earthing. The R-V used to trip campground supplies for a pastime. US cable identifiers, where white (neutral) and black (live). I had real "fun", rewiring the first one to UK sockets. for UK supplies (at 50hz). but retaining some 120 circuits for Frig; and the Air conditioner. At the same time as Transforming the 120V (60Hz) output from the onboard Generator, to 220V for the UK stuff. Pete
  14. Hi. Picked this up again erlier to-day, Using the laptop does indeed make the search Come up/more obvious. I was using the i-phone last time. None of the site does mor than allow the to browse under IOS9.4. (the max my 2nd gen i-pad can use) Pete
  15. Old time Diesels. Once you get them going, no need of a battery. Until you need lights!. Pete

    UK gone mad

I had a brief coastal voyage on an Old German Ship that had 3 phase 600Volt Generators for the Engine and Deck services. Most where 440V 3ph. ALL where 60 Hz. Pete
  17. There is a Triumph "link" according to wiki:- The 1959 Triumph TR3S 1985 cc iron-block alloy-headed engine was called "Sabrina" because of its dome-shaped cam drivers.?. (your Pic?) P.s. IF I remember right from my "yoof". 40DD was an off-times quote?. As for the original topic, one would think that whoever fitted the hood would have fitted the front first and then the rear?. Or is that not the way it is done?, I need to know as I need a new Top for the 13/60 at some point. Pete
  18. Posted on a motorhoming website earlier this Morning:- Having a great trip through France, did the right thing and put our new ‘UK’ stickers on the Moho and amazed at how many French have asked us if we’re from the Ukraine! Pete 🤣
  19. This actually happened, Guy I know back in the 80`s, bought 2 indentical old(er) cars. He ran one against the other, when one was due MOT or repair, he merely swapped the plates. With only one on the road at any one time the vin plates where identicaly stamped, the engine he left, the argument being he could get away with having swapped engines, just forgotten to register change to DVLA, as many old cars had. We had swapped engines regularly on Rally Cars! we never told DVLA because next week we could be doing it again!, "borrowing" drive trains was a regular occurance. Pete.
  20. So. Donning my "criminal minds" hat,🕵️‍♀️ the plates from a similar triumph with MOT, could allow "road tests" without incurring the wrath of the APNR operatives.?? Pete.
  21. This Forum REALLY needs a Tongue in cheek Emojie. Mind I mainly use the "Northumbria" gag, to annoy the relatives north of Hadrians wall!.🤣. I don`t attempt to compete with them in the Power drinking stakes!. Far too many Jan 1st Serious hangovers when much younger. Pete
  22. In the same way the Yorkshire was the Kingdom of Northumbria. When the Scot`s where still a bunch of tribes scrapping with each other. (I think we should have independance too👍). Pete
  23. Did a similar thing to a Mk2 Capri (without the floor plate) in the 80`s, object of the exercise being to raise the seat height, SWMBO`, is shall we say "vertically challenged". Pete

    Rimmer Bros

Only used Paddock`s the once. Because my Grandson, who only lives a few mile away was coming to us for the weekend, I got him to collect my order saving Postage. Beyond that most of what I get comes via Canley`s or occasionally Rimmers, Rimmers, more usually if I have to travel to foreign parts (Lincolnshire) As I have to cross the Blunder bridge anyway it`s usually worth the detour. For those with any interest in WW2. the Bomber Comand Centre is only a mile or two from their premises. Mind with an old shipmate living nearby, it often becomes a quite expensive day, The Lunches in his local are very good. Pete
