  1. Ehhh?. What happened to the "good old days". Down the local scrappy. Welly boots, `cos they was always muddy, Rummage about find what was needed, not necessarily from your vehicle, and anything else, "usefull". Give the owner a few bob, and back on the road. Pete
  2. Anything Mid 90`s or later, the first thing you do is buy an OBDI reader!. Saves hours of "p******g" about if you have a clue as to which little bloody sensor is giving issues. And don`t get me started on EGR valves!!!. OR Fiat Diesels!. The latest incarnation of the BMW (sorry Mini) looks like it has been bingeing on steroids!. Bloat! It needs a Diet. My Current "Modern"/Hack is a 56 Reg P -107, with the semi Auto box. (SWMBO has her own `18 Quashqi, auto) £25 a year tax and ridiculously cheap (relatively) insurance, Just done it`s 2nd MOT in my care. Big enough for me/wife and small dog. Best advatage?. it Tow`s 4 wheels down behind the Motorhome, and we don`t even know it`s there!. Excellent for shopping/sight seeing when we are away. Wouldnt use it on a long journey though. That series, The Aygo and C1 are on the same platform, are too, very popular with the Ladies I notice. Modern vehicle`s, to me generally, are tools, my "toys" have always been much older. Pete
  3. Nooooo. H&SE would have fit. 110V C-T only with proper coverd outlets, for remote working. (why isn`t there a "Tongue in cheek" smiley?) Pete
  4. IF, you think the ride is rough, in that??. For a couple of years I was the owner of an ORIGINAL cooper S. First generation. Mine Got, was that a rough ride. Exiting to drive well shod, it went as if on rails, really ticked all the boxes performance wise. Then the Engine blew up,😭 The cost of rebuilding it was 3 times the Value of the Car!. So grandson and I grafted a 1300 engine into it. It still went well. Eventually though the ride got to me, My wife only ever rode in it once, it was like sitting on a skate board at 70MPH. So we passed it on to a Guy and his son, who where going to to a complete rebuild back to original. Often wonder if they ever did get it back on the road.? You are right though, The lady`s seem to love them, At least 4 or 5 of the female staff at the Doctors/Pharmacy close by park them daily on our close!. My Neighbours wife has one.? Maybe it`s the "small things" syndrome (like diamonds?). PeteMaybe it`s
  5. My understanding is that the "propellant" is the issue, they can be Peroleum based, Butane too has been suggested?. Which would carry small traces of "lubricants". Someone with more knowledge of chemistry than I, might enlighten?. Silly Season thought?. Who remembers that scene in one of the Bond movies, where he "fries" some spider/scorpion/snake, with his lighter and a can of shaving foam?. Pete
  6. A "Straight" plug would need a machined face and a (say) fibre or copper? washer to seal properly. Like many "modern" sump plugs. The taper plug relies on the taper to seal the threads, hence the frequent use of "sealants" (and my coment about PTFE tape). Your comment vis the "old" forged steel square "specials" remind me I still have one (somewhere) in thre garage?, belonged to Father so would be circa 1930`s. BTW, historically, we used "boss white" and hemp wound into the threads, to seal all sorts of Medium from water and steam to gas. Realy high pressure hydraulics often used "patent" sealing washers (Dowty being one),favoured in the aicraft industry, Dowty made Hydraulic Retracting undercarriages for aircraft. (May even have been the worlds first?) Pete
  7. Am I right in thinking there is a (later?)2 speed version that will fit also?. The laws of thermodynamics of and heat transfer would indicate that the volume of air moved and the rate at which it passes over (through) the Matrix, (and it`s cleanliness) are what actually governs the quality of the output too?. Pete
  8. In that case, a few turns of PTFE tape should seal it?. (That rumbling sound, is all the old time plumbers rotating in their graves)😀 Pete
  9. I am surprised it is a Taper thread?. The one shown in the picture, looks to me remarkaby like a Pipe Fitting?. Makes me wonder if the P/O has "lost" the original and made a substitution?. Pete
  10. Yep. Series2 Mini. It works for 90% of the stuff I want to use it for, but sadly NOT for posting on this forum. My I-Phone 8 Like your I-6 works Ok. Pete
  11. I know just how you feel, The time wasted in reducing the "cookie count". must amount to hours. Pete
  12. Designed to bite the heads off cold callers? (hopefully?) To be honest Doug, Microsoft will always be Bill Gates, as far as I`m concerned. He`s currently (aparently) in the throes of the worlds most expensive divorce. My heart doesent exactly bleed for him. Pete
  13. Glad you finally got a result Pete. Mr Gates Is currently "trailing" Windows 11, JUST as the last Incarnation (10) was (finally) settling down!!. Any Bets, He want`s more money to upgrade?. I supose someone has to pay for his divorce?. A lot of folk I know, go on about "Mac". But even that has issues. I cannot access (fully) this forum, I can read but not post, using the I-Pad (2) which I have won`t upgrade beyond IOS9.4?. So effectivly stuck in the past unless I want to shell out several Hundred Quid Pete
  14. Have you searched Flea Bay?. Some of the older/smaller ones (2.4" screen size) are small enough to virtually hide behind the Rear View mirror? and use micro SD cards. I have 3 in all on different vehicles which have been working for 2 or 3 years now. They all work at 5V, (as far as I am aware) and need the regulated plug, OR a stabilised 5V (USB)source?. Pete
  15. I "upgraded" the Vitesse back in the 80`s to an Alternator, about the last time I had anything to do with Dyno`s. But Dynamo`s are on the whole relatively simple machines. A good bearing supplier will be able to provide a quality sealed bearing. I always went for SKF, back when I was doing such things especially on industrial production machinery or marine Pumps etc;. IF you know the bearing Number. I have a book with hundreds of "equivalents"?. As I said in a previous post, it`s well worth "doing" the comutator and fitting new brushes while its dismantled. Pete
  16. I can see it now, A row of (Aldi, Liddle, De-Walt, B&D whatever) Pushed into the rear panel of the car, take `em out and swap for a fresh charged set from the stock in the boot.?👍 Guess what turned up about 3pm today?. As you can see, already had a "play". Heavier than the last one, but feels reasonably balanced, and possible to work one handed with. Not bad for ordering late Yesterday?. Pete
  17. Genuine Scots Imported Haggis, was. But there are rumoured to be "Haggis Smugglers" who run them from Canada. (allegedly). My Son, who lives in Texas, and is married to a Scot. Never seems to have an issue getting Haggis for Burns Night?. It is however, definitely an "aquired taste". Neaps and Tatties is part of the comestible acompaniment. Maybe returning Scot`s hide them under their Kilt?.🤣 Pete
  18. Further North they used to be Neaps, if I remember right?. But then back when I was a mere boy we had turnups on our trousers?. You`ve GOT to LOVE the English Language!. Pete
  19. Other than Bearing Noise, Is the Dyno, working? (Ie electrical out put?) If so from memory. the bearings are/where replaceable, while you at it, refurb and undercut the Comutator too?, with new brushes. p.s if you decide on that course, go for good grade bearings. Pete
  20. Hi My Haynes copy. (It gives 3 copyright dates: 1971, 1978, and 1986?) ISBN 900550 10 4. Covers the 13/60 . Which (acording to Haynes) was produced from Oct 1967 onward. Edit. Transposed the 6 and 7!! Doh!
  21. The decision has been made. I await the arrival of the corded De-Walt. We will see what transpires ultimately. 2quid more than Screwfix, (but no 80 mile round trip to collect). And 25quid off by virtue of a forgotton Amazon Voucher, plus free "prime" Freight, arriving by Saturday???.🤞. Pete
  22. I agree with Pete, using it would be the best option, lack of use was why my Beemer (bike) got sold on. My issues have as yet only been confined to "kit" that has got infrequent use in recent times. (Generator, Chain saw, and a Petrol Strimmer), If in doubt the fuel gets (not the Fuel/Oil mix) drained and bunged in the "modern", which then gets topped up. So far no (more) issues. I think I posted elsewhere, but I was told that the Ethanol is only added as the tanker is being filled, to avoid possible deterioration of the fuel in the refinery storage tanks.? I do wonder though just how long we will be able to get 97+RON fuel without E10?. Are "additives" the answer?. Are there any?. Should we be doing the research Now? Pete
  23. Got my eye on a Dewalt from Screwfix, however at least the 3 closest outlets have no stock!. The current nearest is over 40 miles away!. Looks like It will be Click and collect and wait while they deliver to the nearest store. OR I can have a Bosch or a Makita from Amazon tomorrow?. Decision time, I suspect!!. Pete
  24. The Information about the use of good quality Resitant hose is necessary. I have had some issues already with E5 fuel, but that is confined to equipment which is infrequently used. The Maker/Supliers advice was to ensure the use of "fresh" fuel. And not to store the device with old/stale fuel in the tank. So far that advice has proved sound and I have had few issues since adopting the advice. Pete
  25. The corded one the "fell over" was an old Draper 600W, which I`ve had since the 90`s. Nice handy size too, easy to use one handed. I may even look out for something similar. They do get most use in the garage, so maybe the "portability" is not quite so urgently necessary. Perhaps wait until the Lidle /Aldi (offers) come back? Pete
