  1. When I pulled Both the Clutch and Brake pedal/box units out of my "Crate of parts". They where both seized onto the spindle and where rotating on the Flange sides. where they had worn the holes slightly? 1/16"! Oval. I ran some weld into the oval, dressed it back and filed it to a tight fit. Now the pedal works properly again. I am tempted to put a bead of weld on one side to stop it hapening again?. The other option is to "D" the end of the pin and weld a strip over the hole to stop rotation but that will require modifying the pin too. The simple answer might be to drill an oil hole into the pedal, and a squirt of oil, now and again?. I think I like simple?. Pete
  2. Oh!. And don`t use "Plastic" (polyprop) rope if the Engine is still Hot!πŸ‘πŸ˜‚ Pete
  3. Yet, "we" took Tank Trailers to Scandinavia on a regular run. Many of which where "hazchem"?. So there is little or no "logic" in the system! Pete.
  4. "Brass" per-se, is probably too soft for the particular job. I would suggest that P-B (phosphor bronze) would be a more suitable material?. Pete
  5. That has always defeated me. NI in my view IS the UK. Its like saying they won`t post post North of the Humber?. Totally Daft!. I do know a lot charge extra to the Scotish Highlands, But that I am told is down to Cal-Mac`s freight rates?. Ive had Thinner posted (well courierd) out to me!. And That`s Highly Flamable Pete
  6. Duly Noted, Ian, πŸ‘ I will keep a careful eye on it. The "original" was beyond redemption anyway. And allegedly NLA. Plus I have "converted" to PAS anyway. Pete
  7. Hi Can I just make an observation?. I note the Bolt is entered from the bottom and the nut to the top,? That does not affect the function. However in practice, should the fastener loosen and the nut be lost, the bolt will drop out, the perceived wisdom in all vertical fasteners was to enter the bolt from the top, the nut will likely cause less problems than a bolt if it drops off. The bolt could potentially jamb some other part in a lower situation. As apprentices we would get our wrists soundly slapped!!😭 (usually a "clip round the lughole"). Some of "our" Bolts where 3ft or more long and 3"+ in dia!!. Pedantry (still) rules OK!! Pete
  8. HI I think? I used a G clamp to remount the ones I did, using the Old bearing cap to push the final set to allow the circlip to sit.?. They where O/E ones, which had been bought for a Vitesse circa 1985(ish) and had survived 3 house moves still in the orignal "greaseproof" wrapping. Pete
  9. Hi. Also works for replacing valve stem oil seals on Ford Pinto Engines, without removing the headsπŸ‘ Somewhere in what passes for my garage there is the bespoke lever for "popping" the spring and holding while the collets and seal are removed and replaced. Fabricated as I recall from the remains of a childs car seat?. Pete
  10. Hi Canley. Item 31. and with the dreaded NLA. One L-H thread one RH thread. I would think they could be made, but you would need a LH tap and die set. About Β£10 each on Tinternet. Pete
  11. Ahh!. Light Bulb time. I am guessing now that said owner in my quote, had NOT fitted the bush?. But was unaware of the need for allowance for thermal expansion?. And Haynes, at least, fail to mention it?. Pete.

HI. Or the timber and scaffold pole version. Maybe IF I had to do it again, I`d build something more "engineered". but It did actually work!. Pete
  13. Hi Your not the only one. I "aquired" a 1945 Drumond Lathe, when a Dairy Closed over 30 years ago. Circa 2014 I dragged it out of storage and gave it a clean up to put it back in use. The amount of Crap I cleaned off some of which was almost medieval! was not amusing. It`s still not the best of condition, but hopefully when the 13/60 is finished I`ll give it a real "Birthday". I want to move it to it`s own position and reclaim some of the bench, but is conditional upon a re think about the "stuff" in the garage. Hey Ho, As my Dad would have said "it`ll keep you out of Pub`s, and off street corners!"πŸ˜€ Pete
  14. Cannot attest to Triumph`s as it`s 30 years since I converted the Vittesse. But more recently A guy was bemoaning the fact that having converted his Minor? (I Think), one of the bottom alternator flanges had cracked, investigation revealed the the width between the lower brackets was too wide and needed the (overlooked) packing distance piece/washers to avoid the strain when bolted up. If I can find the article (P C I think,) I will post the reference. Pete
  15. Hi In reply to John (above). This might throw some light on the issue, Recently published in the F-T. https://www.ft.com/content/3637a08d-f9cb-436e-9053-5563a29b1edd Pete
  16. On that note, We had a Smart Car, Wife turned up at Granddaughters school, Said child was mortified, Until all her little pal`s kept on about how "cool" it was. Street Cred restored, she returned home with a large Grin!. Kidd`s Eh!.
  17. Hi I too noted that the drain plug even shown in some early "manuals" was missing?. Some time ago. I purchased a 12V Pump from Aldi, (Might have been Lidle?) was If I recall about Β£15/20?. Excellent for doing oil changes (via the Dip Stick on one car!) and evacuating contaminated fuel tanks too. Something Similar would probably work for yourself?. Pete.
  18. The one I fitted to the 13/60, came from Rimmer, and was a good fit. Albeit as yet un-tested in service. Added:- Photo Pete
  19. I use it annually, to clean/descale the water heater in my Motorhome, A tea spoon full in the kettle (1.7L) removes the hard water scale very effectively too. Pete
  20. Hi White Vinnegar Crystals are used/useful for many things. My most recent, was to clean and de-scale the 16/30 Heater Matrix. I have it "on hand" as it`s my go-to de-scaler for any sort of "Stainless" steel product, where some de-scalers, especially those containing Clorines can cause perferation. Pete
  21. Hi I did this on my 13/60. About 1/2 way down Page 2 of the post. https://forum.tssc.org.uk/topic/1188-power-steering-on-a-spitfire-is-it-possible/?tab=comments#comment-9775 Pete
  22. LH corner?, Cat?. What is it with animals?. When ever you want to take a photograph (Or wet cement) they have to be "in".? Pete
  23. Pete. Did you have to use a (physically) smaller battery?. Pete
  24. Hi Found online:- And This link may offer some insight?. http://www.worldphaco.com/uploads/HISTORICAL_LUCAS_ALTERNATOR_REGULATOR.pdf Pete
