Best place to buy ignition components

Thanks both.   But Kevin - where do TSSC get parts from?  I suspect the same place as Moss, Rimmers and Paddocks - mainly China!  I know there are some places who still have access to higher quality parts.

It’s a pity that the club don’t source from specialist sources only?  I’m sure most of us would be happy to pay more for quality.   Or do they?

Rich,

Can you imagine what would happen if the Club shop sold Pete Lewis, JohnD, Colin or ME a dodgy part?!!

Bern is always on the look out for good stuff which is why some of it is more expensive than the usual suspects.

There was an issue with the GT6 radiator air scoop thing, a few cracked down the seams. Bern found a new supplier.

Anything found dodgy will get action out the club shop.

I know sombody who had a new GT6 dizzy from the club, it was an accuspark or something. So awful teh car would barely run. Sent back, I think eventually he was refunded. But it comes down to the fact any seller is at the mercy of the suppliers. At least the club will do something, unlike the brothers who tend to faff and need prodding to get a refund. But sometimes they "promise to look into" an issue, but simply don't do anything.

Distributer dov=ctor is teh best out there for ignition stuff, not sure if he does delco though. Or try H+H

club use H and H  for renovated dizzy parts  never accuspark

dizzy doc is good but even he sent me a 4 cyl cap for a 6cly  which was sorted

and you have the knowledge club woil sort a problem when it arises

and remember the club is not a profit making bussiness

Pete

It was a new distributor, I have seen them on fleabay, usually claiming they have been checked for correct advance. Absolute nonsense,  that one i referred to was dreadful. Maybe the club has stopped selling them?

Hi,

I purchased new points, rotor arm, distributor cap and new leads for my, new to me at the time 13/60. It went from starting first time every time to not starting at all. I am restoring another 13/60 at the moment so have been concentrating on that.

Have found the rotor arm and distributor cap and that will at some stage swop those back and see how it goes.

So why did I do that when it was all going well, I am asking myself the same question.

It is not good though to not have the confidence in what you buy.

When changing electrical components do one at a time and make sure it works. Then the next one etc etc.

When buying parts as spares.  Fit the new one and see that ot works. Put the old one in the spares box - you know it will work.

Hi Richard,

I’ve recently changed the distributor cap, rotor arm and points and bought them from James Paddock. Quality was absolutely fine and I’ve had no issues since installing them 5 months ago. I have to say I buy all my general servicing parts from JP and have done for a very long time and can’t remember ever having had an issue.

If it was a refurbed distributor I was after then, yes, the Distributor Dr. would be were I would head.

I purchased an interior door handle for a 74 Spitfire from James Paddock quality was shocking it just fell apart. In fairness he checked the whole batch I was the first customer to order one and said they were all poor. He was returning them and refunded me straight away. I picked dup a second hand original one which was miles better.

I think we all know that generally the quality of parts from all of the main suppliers is quite poor, as parts are bought in from the far east - the only source.  Apparently driven by yours and my desire for low prices (hard to believe - I would certainly pay more).

There are some suppliers like Chic Doig and a few others who seem to have limited stocks of better quality parts.  Who else?

As Pete said Orginal Dist Caps can last years and can be fixed, on a week club tour here years ago a friends Stag developed a misfire that got worse as we crossed our Great Dividing Range & it was snowing so cold too. We tracked the fault down to the Dist Cap tracking on the inside. It was duly cleaned and painted on the inside with his wife's Nail Varnish, repair still effective to this day!
