  1. all the diagrams i can see show its a two wire holder ( not an earthed case) one to the white on the ign switch and the other is earthed via the alternator or dynamo control box WL wire brown and yellow you dont want a holder that has an earthed case unless its insulated from wherever it is located or you get a short or bulb on constant Pete
  2. if you can make meccano or even leggo, read a book you can strip a carb. theres little to go wrong if you stick to what doug says and ignore me or the other way round, neither of us are sane if unsure of what you have do one at a time and take photos or make a sketch of anything you remove
  3. no Im Lewis someone else has to be Correct, Ha !! better than X & spurt
  4. A number od simple things with the cleaner off it improves access but need them on to get the mixture correct with them off remove the dash pot piston and raise the air piston with fingers or anything let it drop it must land hard with a clunk. if its not the slide inside may need a clean and a dab of oil mostly any sticking here is because the needle is fouling the jet , this need jet centralisation undo the big nut under the body, the highest half a turn, screw the lower adjusting nut till the jet touches the bottom of the piston, jam a screwdriver down the dashpot tube to hold the air piston down, tap the jet holder , test the drop , if it clunks nip the top nut up back off the mixture jet nut , the lower one 2 full turns this should give a basic running to start up if the cars been standing for months its worth remove the float tops and with a small tube and goggles And air piston top cover and piston removed blow down the jet make sure it blows back into the float area hence goggles needed. also remove the float needle valve make sure no debris is hiding in the supply line and blocked the back of the valve. when you pull the choke make sure when its pushed back in the jet does pop back up to its adjusting nut a prod with the fingers is all thats needed these can stick and you run on full choke without realising if that makes sense have a look see let us know if you find something Pete

  8. there little to go wrong, stick to the basics i dont know about a youtube but theres loads of other manuals spell out the basics to get them right http://www.tr-register.com.au/Files/sugeneral.html http://sucarb.co.uk/technical-hs-type-carburetter-description-adjustments Pete
  9. ive said before we used to be involved with all sorts of testing on trucks and horns were once on the agenda there was when we were taken over by chrysler in the 70s a great usa manual of test procedures completely inappropriate to the UK but we had to go through the motions . we used cranfield aerodrome marked out the distance specified and on the basis we couldn't hear either picked the cheapest !!!!!! Pete
  10. some work to dribble brush somthing like loctite 574 or similar will seap into the tube clearance and goes solid when air is excluded, once the seeped in has set wipe of any excess never tried this but these types of product work very well there is no on car mechanical after the event fix that ive ever come across await more clues pete
  11. yes Doug ........but the carb is upside down and next time you need a head taking you can .......................!!!! Pete
  12. dosnt pay to loose sleep...on reflection but i reckon your last pic has them the right way up Pete
  13. yes they are the ones ,, gone up a lot since i got mine played with some 3ft long truck air horns that came back as warranty, ,,well these look fun under the bonnet but needed a 20ltr air tank charged to run them ,,need lots of volume to produce LOTS OF VOLUME sad Pete
  14. just make sure the other bowls have the same face contour ,, if older they can be different...back to the gasket scenario two gaskets might just solve the leak been over fettled , you have just found what Ive come across , they look pretty but "££$%^& the rest can be a bit variable not cheap and not so good . Pete
  15. cornflake packets can make useful discs. Pete
  16. Im now beginning to doubt the grey matter, about twin arm floats..... which way up, everywhere you look its got the two chances rivet plate on top or under this seriously alters the fueling levels and valve reliability from memory the float sits in the fuel at an angle, ie what looks right ...... is wrong so turn it over !!! having searched around through all my manuals and online this delicate bit of information seems very mixed later spec stroms have a float level of 16-17mm but as for which way the answers seem 50/50 GRRRrrrrrrrr !!! Pete
  17. yes the rib is quite important sealing back up , who refurbed these things ??? 1.75 its the diameter of the seating, but i would expect the float to work it its same set up and float on a CD175 which uses bigger ones and whatever the fuel should never leak from the gasket zone only up the jet or out the breather port in the front face
  18. yes ive searched for the old lucas bell push switch that used to be used on the back of these wiper switches but never found one odd that i dont have one in my history box of switch gear from the70s
  19. thats looking ok , whats ite bowl fit like , i dont see great markings to show the bowl fits the gasket these are two flat surfaces apart from the small raised rib to aid sealing, and if its leaking somewhere something doest fit or is distorted lay the gasket on the bowl see it it matches while the car is off fill with petrol and look carefully to see where its letting it out , petrol does creep and can leak 'here' and drip 'there' something is obviously amiss , at least you have the floats the right way up for the double armed float. they look a bit on the low side ( high fuel level) 18mm from deck to float is normal pete
  20. http://www.mintylamb.co.uk/gearspeed/ From this something is radically wrong with your rev counter or speedo a std 1500 has a 3.63 diff at 5500 thats 102mph both need to be calibrated one or both are wrong or you have clutch slip !!!
  21. Last pair of nice red high , low from halfords for quite cheap and make a pleasant quality Wind toned blast, rather than Baa Baa.
  22. Yes dave, good idea, its still my experience tells me the gasket does not match the shape of the bowl face its a common problem thats why most kits contain many gaskets all slightly different you have to be careful at selecting the correct one. I have never come across a 'universal' bowl gasket Pete
