  1. Hello If you alter the figures in the boxes and do recalculate it seems to work Roger
  2. Hello Ian I do not remember any problems on my Spitfire 1500 other than flasher relays(mind you it was 5 or 6+ years ago!) Roger
  3. Hello DJN Are you using Ford Edis ignition? Roger
  4. Hello Mark I had this not long ago after fitting a new drive shaft I was sure I had got the U/J tight!! but about 200/300miles later(just before our Spanish/Portugal trip!) I got the ticking and at first I thought it was a stone or something stuck in the tyre(we all live in hope?) If you jack it up and get a big screwdriver in there you will soon find which one needs thicker circlips and as Johny says if you drive to much it will wear the yokes. I fitted thicker circlips and 2500+ miles later all is still quiet Roger
  5. Hello Johny Go with the Huco they are quieter I fitted the cut off switch in the middle of the baulkhead and a small hidden switch in the glove box for anti theft and when working on the car Roger
  6. Hello Johny As Clive says fit a HUCO low pressure one I had one on Spitty for 4+ years with no problem and fills the carbs before you try and start the car(not for the Konkers lot?) But you must fit a safety cut off switch in case of a shunt etc(plenty on Fleabay just make sure you get the plug as well) Roger ps never had a problem with heat and we went to Spain twice and Italy in proper heat mounted on the baulkhead
  7. Hello I would get the new drive shaft from Fitchetts he tells me they are made in the UK(Midlands) and are better quality than the 2 chocolate ones I fitted (both failed with the yoke coming loose) 1 has done about 5000 miles and 1 about 3000 miles Roger ps I mean the new ones have done this mileage
  8. Hello All I thought is about time I got our Mk2 Vitesse going! So after fitting a new master cylinder(seized!) I needed to put petrol in it but rather than put some in the tank(in case it leaks or is dirty) I thought I know I will use a small oil can with a tap on it I made up about 55 Years ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So here it is in operation and it did the trick. Talk about never throwing things away? Roger ps She started up straight away after I spun it for a while to get the oil around before I turned on the petrol and primed the cab's
  9. Hello Nick Why I wonder would the factory have done that? Roger ps been messing with the EFI settings today!!!!!(I am a B****er for tinkering!) I have altered the throttle balance as front 2 plugs look richer(may be oil pollution?)I can not alter the fuelling so thought add a bit more air? Plus altered the idle settings as Spitty kept ticking over at 1000rpm not the 850 rpm I set it at! Plus I have reduced the advance at 1500/2000rpm as I thought I could hear a rattle(pinking)did that yesterday and seems better? the test will come on Sunday when on a TSSC run we have planned(but only 2 degs so nothing drastic)and in the load area. Roger ps We are missing this! plus these 2 classics
  10. Hello I think un marked heads are likely to be EN8 But most of our Classic Car bolts would be R or S quality (marked on the head) Nuts were marked differently ooo on the flat or circle with letter on one face Thinking about it ooo,s maybe just UNF! Roger ps there is a lot of rubbish stuff out there now! but good ones will still be marked! (I suppose the they could be fakes!)
  11. Hello Graham I agree with Clive I used proptech he is used by a lot of Triumph people and I thought the price was good Roger
  12. Hello All I fully agree the thermostat should be in bottom of radiator(screwed in) I have been running Spitty like this for nearly 4 1/2 years with a dual thermostat as I use 2 x 9" fans that come on a different temperatures(only the lower temperature ever normally comes on) Just now and then when stuck in traffic in Spain and 30+ degs heat Roger ps I was always told you want the whole engine at working temperature for best thermal efficiency and engine life(no mayo in the rocker cover!)
  13. Hello All I fitted silicon hose to Spitty 6+ years ago and still feel fine(not club) It seems expensive but better than the brake down truck or B****erd engine ? (we are off the Spain again this year do not suppose I could get hoses there?) Roger
  14. Hello Lorna This is were I got mine from and I collected it as it is local This how Spitty sits https://www.gbsprings.co.uk/heritage-car-springs/ Roger
  15. Hello Lorna I have fitted one of the Midlands made one. It sat a bit high to start with but has settled now so with no load it is a bit positive but when loaded for touring looks about right' If I can find who I bought it off I will pm you as it was cheaper Roger
  16. Ha Ha Pete are you expecting to be here in 30 years time? Roger
  17. Hello All If you have a lathe (or a friend with one) I drilled the hinges o/s and made pins to suit Roger

    engin springs

Hello All Do they do Racing ones ????? Roger
  19. Hello Mark It could be the seating in the block that is faulty? If it was a bare block I would say re seat it or lap it in but on a complete engine those options are not available. Just try and have a good look at the seat and try and clean it the best you can plus polish the plunger so there is no ridges to catch. Roger
  20. Hello Mark I can not remember if its a new cam and followers? If not just use Morris or similar as it is only the bores you are bedding down and change after 500 miles max Have you lubed the shells with graphagen or similar? Do not idle to much or bores will glaze(I am a firm believer of on and off the throttle to decent revs but not load) no slogging up hills hold lower gears to bed in quicker. Roger
  21. Hello Darren Does it have self parking? if not I do not think it will work as it uses the self park to do the timing Roger

    Oil filter

Hello Nick Do you really think cold oil would lift a 12psi valve? I use the W916/1 which is 0.9 or 13.5psi I this another reason for using modern synthetic oils? But surely the manufacturer allows for cold oil? I thought it was just there for if the filter got very dirty? Roger
  23. Hello Darren Just ignore the blue connection as it is not used I have one fitted but do not think it works on high speed (and why would you want it to?) I think it is a good bit of kit had mine for at least 3 years. Have you got the single wipe option on your car(mine is a Spitfire 1500) if so you can set the timer by using that. You just give it a flick for one wipe then count how long you want the interval for or watch the rain on the screen and flick again(I think I have remembered that right!) Roger
  24. Hello Dave I have no doubt you are right but when I was setting up my EFI I had the bonnet open most of the time and the fan would cut in for a short period then stop so it was doing its job! I also did a scientific test to see were the air was blowing(a strip of news paper held in different parts of the engine bay!)and it was flapping at the rear I used to have the n/s fan as the lower temperature one to come and blow over the alternator but I changed it around so its the o/s one that comes on at the lower temperature as I found the new 4 branch manifold was getting hotter than the old one so I thought it may as well have the air flow over it(it is thinner gauge tube than the old one but the old one would not let me fit the EFI runners) Roger
