S/H (Used) Parts. We have mountains of used parts in our warehouses. We have parts not only for the Herald, Vitesse, GT6, and Spitfire, but masses of stuff for the 2000/2.5 saloon range, and some for the FWD, and Dolomite range. For a quick response email (info@canleyclassics.com) with part numbers, or a brief description (not Facebook messages, or telephone please). I think I have a photographic memory for what, and where we have all this stuff, fancy testing me?

Interesting, didn't even know they did S/H

That's because they want you to buy new, Dave.

I really do hope this is not the first sign of the company slipping - I have always had 99.9% service from them and are my default supplier for parts.

Regards.

Richard.

Canleys really wound down their retail side a few years ago, closed their counter and so on. So not at all surprised they want to start the looooong job of clearing stock that may have been there for a good many years. Probably some very good stuff in there, and Dave will be honest about quality etc.

If/when canleys do "exit" it will be a sad day. They have been instrumental in bringing all sorts of new stuff to the market over the years, and get all sorts of things made that are then supplied to the other traders.... Hopefully that side will continue, otherwise we are a bit stuffed.

Any rumors about our early demise are a bit premature! Trade was a bit slow yesterday so I thought I would drum up a bit of business by shifting some of the used tackle we have here. We have never really pushed the second hand parts side of the business  as most of the year we are simply to busy to go ferreting around finding that elusive widget. We inherited mountains of the stuff from JK back in the 90's. Many might not remember that JK's operation were regularly breaking Triumphs in the 80-90's, and importing containers full of stuff back from New Zealand .

Going through those points made above;

That's because they want you to buy new, Dave.

Not at all. Nothing better than selling a used something that has been sat around for 30+ years, rather than shifting its new equivalent that you have either had to buy in new, or get made with a smaller margin.

Canleys really wound down their retail side a few years ago, closed their counter and so on.

In the end the counter side of the business was tiny and hardly worth employing someone to be there on the off chance of a bit of passing trade. On the other hand the mail order side had been taking off exponentially since JK  started the very first classic car traders web site, and we added on-line buying early on.  We are still doing the numbers but it's all on-line, or trade to trade these days.

Sure he disposed of all his gearbox rebuild spares a few years ago.

True we have sold a bit of our overdrive core to some of the specialists, but we did have rather a lot! The rest of the gearbox core, and differential core is still here.

He also posted quite a few years that he had 1000 ( or was it 1000's) of engines, can't see him still having all those.

We went through it back when the Chinese were still paying inflated price for scrap and ditched all the iffy stuff.

To conclude I have no immediate desire to retire. I have far to many cars (and vans!) I still need to restore to even think about walking away from probably the best source of spares that are left that happen to be on my doorstep that makes it relatively easy to do (however if you have any spare Pony parts knocking  about ping me a mail).

Nice to hear, Dave!!

I do miss the stall at some of the mainland shows I get to; on-line is fine but like Tesco's the impulse buys are too tempting in the flesh so when you stopped attending some of the TSSC shows it left quite an empty space.

Are you still working on the Pony?

Strange, that possible option / alternative has never been flagged or mentioned previously when contacting CC for parts.

You could say "well did you ask" - but then if there is nothing better than selling a second hand part with a better margin, I would have thought that option would certainly have or should have been stated.

Just an observation.

I had a Vitesse Mk1 Air Filter Box from them last month for £30 plus postage (Ebay wanted £60) and it was very good!  Dave was very helpful!

That's a very good result Martyn and nice to hear eBay is not the default option for purchases, on a far too regular basis.

I wonder if you would have got the same response had you enquired about getting a second hand box a number of months prior to last month (January) - when the FB entry was made about wishing to move on "mountains of used spares" - your enquiry and purchase were timely.

Regards.

Richard.
